Description

Bemis Center seeks an experienced and motivated fundraising professional to join its Development Department and play an instrumental role in achieving the organization’s annual operating and capital fundraising goals. Reporting to the Development Director, the Development Manager executes upon the organization’s fundraising plan for income producing grants, sponsorships, individual gifts, and memberships that will generate short and long-term support for Bemis Center’s mission and special projects. Together with the Development Director, and with the support of the Development Assistant, this position is responsible for the full lifecycle of donor relationship management with regional, national, and international foundations, corporations, government entities, and individuals. This includes ongoing stewardship of Bemis Center’s longstanding supporters as well as research, identification, and cultivation of new funding sources as the organization and its renowned programs continue to grow.

  • You have demonstrated fundraising experience, including working with institutional and individual funders.

  • You are a self-starter that can hit the ground running, are highly organized, and an exemplary collaborator and communicator.

Responsibilities 

  • Oversee the full range of activities required to prepare and submit proposals to foundation, government, and corporate funders. 

  • Maintain and update the organization’s grant application and reporting calendar to track key deadlines.

  • Coordinate with Bemis staff members to prepare budgets and ancillary materials to support grant proposals and reports.

  • Draft timely gift acknowledgement letters and other funder correspondence as required.

  • Ensure compliance with grant terms and restrictions, including the fulfillment of recognition requirements and preparation of interim and final reports.

  • Research and identify national and international grant opportunities, corporate partners, and/or individuals with a philanthropic interest in the arts and/or relate to the organization’s mission and activities.

  • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects.

  • Implement annual membership and donation solicitation campaigns by creating effective fundraising messaging and collateral for the website, social media, email appeals, and direct mail.

  • Support stewardship of giving partners through the fulfillment of membership and sponsorship benefits, such as organizing private tours and events;

  • Assist in the planning and coordination of large scale fundraisers and smaller cultivation events.


 

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required. A combination of education is education, work experience, and lived experience is appreciated. 

  • At least 4 years of experience in fundraising or marketing, or translatable field, preferably in the context of a small-to-medium-size arts organization or other non-profit organization.

  • Proven knowledge of foundation and corporate partner relationships with a strong interest and awareness at a local and national/international level.

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including artists, Board Members, alumni, strategic partners, funders, and the public.

  • Exceptional organizational skills and impeccable attention to detail;

  • Superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as presentation and public speaking skills.

  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and donor database experience preferred, Adobe Creative Suite a plus;

  • Ability to act with excellent judgment and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  • Creative and strategic thinker with the capacity to take initiative and to work independently and as a team player in a fun, yet demanding arts organization.

  • Ability to assist with special events outside of regular business hours on occasion.

  • Experience applying an equitable analysis to all duties to achieve organizational goals and demonstrate The Bemis Center’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and anti-racism.

  • Clear understanding and ability to speak to Bemis Center’s mission in a clear, spirited manner.

  • A successful reference check is required.


 

Compensation

This is a salaried position, based on knowledge, skills, and experience. The salary range is $48,000–$52,000 and includes our standard benefit package, including medical, dental, 12 paid holidays, and paid vacation
