Job Summary: An award-winning nonprofit book publisher located in NYC’s Wall Street area, The New Press has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic Development Assistant to be part of our four-person development team. An immediate, full-time position reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Development Assistant provides administrative support for the department and works to help implement strategies that ensure the sustainability and organizational growth of The New Press. New Press staff currently work three days in the office and two days remotely.
The successful candidate will have some previous exposure to development, an active interest in learning more about fundraising, and affinity for The New Press’s social justice mission. We are looking for a team player who values the chance to work with an experienced development department offering a bird’s-eye view of social justice fundraising.
Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Chief Development Officer, the Development Assistant will:
• Team Support: Prepare and maintain the Development team’s meeting agendas, notes, and action items.
• Tracking Information and Results: Ensure donor interactions and prospect information are properly captured as actionable institutional history in the organization’s database. Administer annual tax receipt letters for donors.
• Prospect Research and Outreach: Research donors and prospects, qualify leads, and identify pathways for engaging leads.
• Events: Support the planning and execution of all aspects of events, from smaller cultivation events to the organization’s gala.
• Campaigns: Support the organization’s fundraising campaigns, from researching and writing materials to executing an outreach and follow up strategy.
• CRM Migration: Support the organization’s transition to Raisers’ Edge, including data and record cleaning, inputting data, and working with other New Press teams to solve problems.
• Development Communications: Support communications efforts by helping to create content for digital and print communications; sending books to supporters.
• Other Administrative Support: Perform general administrative duties for the Development department, including general correspondence, filing, mailings, and scheduling meetings as well as additional duties as may be determined.
Qualifications:
• A minimum of the equivalent of one to two years of relevant work experience in development.
• Exposure to donor databases and an aptitude for digital development and email communications tools.
• Strong verbal and written communications skills.
• Highly detail-oriented, organized, and motivated.
• Superb administrative skills including facility with Microsoft 365.
• Ability to manage multiple work projects, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexibility, and ability to navigate participating in different team environments.
• Discretion and sensitivity in handling and safeguarding confidential information.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred. Compensation & Benefits: This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this position is $47,500-$50,000, with a generous benefits package.
