Strategic Design at Clorox
The Strategic Design Group (SDG) unlocks insights, inspires the organization, and builds new and
meaningful offerings and brand experiences. SDG plays a critical role in discovering new consumer
and business opportunities, and innovating products within R&D. As Design Strategist, s(he) will
have the opportunity to play across all the Clorox brand portfolio and make design-led impact.
The Role
The Design Strategist will work closely with stakeholders from R&D and cross-functional colleagues
- Research, Brand Management and Marketing - to define the opportunity, leverage their design
experience and craft to contextualize the vision of the business and design opportunity and steward
strategic initiatives. S(he) will have a strong ability to inspire, lead and manage extended design
team (of internal and external resources), champion design and collaborate with stakeholders to
drive quality design experiences and solutions.
Key Responsibilities: Strategic Design Leadership
o Working with various Businesses and Brands to identify new opportunities for growth
o Fostering strategic POV of market shifts, competitive qualities, consumer lifestyle and brand
behavior to stay ahead of evolving consumer mindset considering overall brand and business
impact
o Synthesizing insights, developing and implementing consistent shared design vision -
principles, imperatives, and consumer target/personas - to guide and innovate beyond current
consumer expectation
o Translating insights and strategy into tangible design proposals (visions, scenarios, concepts) to
inspire and advance the innovation effort
o Leading workshops, driving and refining the work effectively to influence and ensure advocacy
of key stakeholders
o Responsibility for the design-led impact on business growth across the Clorox brand portfolio -
design strategy, quality of design, management and execution of product experience
o Mentoring and leading internal and external design resources to deliver quality and value
throughout the creative process
Required Skills
o Strong design approach with superior design sensibility and design management skills
o Experience with full suite of research, ideation
o Effective communication and presentation skills (visual/verbal) to engage and influence senior
leadership, internal stakeholders and customers (e.g. Target, Costco) at all levels
Nice-to-Have Skills
o Visualization, physical prototyping methods and tools
o Excellent end-to-end industrial design and deep knowledge of manufacturing
o Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite; Illustrator, Photoshop, In-design, 3D modeling software
Qualifications & Ideal Profile
o 10+ years of deep strategic design industry experience
o Diverse experience at top design consulting firms working with clients in different industries,
including major CPGs or combination of consulting and corporate experience with aptitude to
serve as a trusted advisor across our Businesses and Brands
o Business development experience in consulting environment
o Adept at navigating a large corporation
o Able to bring dimensionality to physical products as well as experiences to life; expert of craft (if
not fully hands-on) with understanding of how things are made and fabricated in order to
credibly influence key business and cross-functional stakeholders
o Thrive as a member of a lean (stealth) team where you will apply design thinking and craft
o Mindset: highly collaborative, flexible and persistent- build alignment, gain advocacy, drive
design execution and deliver project objectives
o Comfortable with ambiguity, ability to translate consumer insights into concepts, effectively
envision and convey
Education Requirements
o Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution Preferred but Not Required
