This senior level position will manage a team of engineers and technicians responsible for designing and developing Photonics related products such as filters, polarization optics, simple and multi-element lenses, and fiber optic devices. Team responsibilities include all related engineering documentation and date as well as metrology and characterization requirements. From time to time, it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations.
Essential Job Functionsinclude the following, but are not limited to:
• Supervise the group responsible for design, specification, characterization, and web release of optical and fiber related products
• Monitor and maintain Product Development schedules and tasks.
• Ensure the adherence to Product Development and engineering procedures.
• Identify, document and rank ideas for new development efforts
• Buil and maintain a database of new product ideas and investigate cutting edge technologies and resulting product possibilities.
• Assist in building and maintaining a clear, intuitive, hub (folder, database, etc.) where development information is stored and maintained.
• Implement and develop ways to streamline our Product Development process
• Manage direct reports, including workloads and yearly performance reviews.
• Document project work and, at times, lead projects and technical discussions
• Create and develop effective training presentations where necessary.
• Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas

Physical Activities:
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.

Qualifications
Experience:
• Minimum 7 years' experience in a designing optical and fiber related products
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, optical, or related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
- Working knowledge on SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling software.
- Strong proficiency in MS office and communication tools.
- Excellent statistical data analysis and problem solving abilities.
- Effectively reports progress and problems through written or oral reports.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
- Strong innovation skill.
- Flexibility/adaptability in a fast-paced & dynamic environment.
