NICOLEHOLLIS, an award-winning, large size Interior Design firm seeks a talented and motivated Design Assistant to assist our Design Team.
The Design Assistant contributes to the success of NICOLEHOLLIS by assisting in general office and design duties, drafting, sourcing, coordinating, filing library and images. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of experience, focusing in high-end interior design.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary role of Design Assistant is to assist the designers during the design process by gathering required design materials for projects including:
- Furniture options, fabric samples, accessories, lead time, pricing
- Building materials, finishes, appliances, plumbing, hardware, and bath accessories
- Paint and finish options, preliminary color schemes
- Sketches for custom furniture, pillows, accessories
- Compose mood boards, gather relevant images
- Draft elevations, floor plans, and render presentation drawings
Organize and maintain design library:
- Set up meetings with vendors and present new materials to project team
- Maintain the library, return samples to design center
- Collect relevant images from magazines and books
- Research new products, materials, and finishes
Prepare for client meetings and other responsibilities as needed:
- Gather and pack necessary materials and organize the meeting agenda
- Write and revise specifications, proposals and purchase orders for furnishings and accessories
- Create budgets, schedules, and specifications
- Type meeting notes and create project binders
- Responsible for organization of project folder and ensure filing system
- Assist Interns
- Partner with the design team to develop designs, concepts, schematics, and specifications for residential, hospitality and commercial projects/properties.
- Prepare and complete contract documents to meet client program, company standards, and project budget constraints including but not limited to design presentations, moodboards, material palettes, construction drawing sets, rendered floorplans and elevations (2D and 3D visualizations), specifications package, FF&E selections, custom furniture design and documentation, finishes package
REQUIREMENTS & CORE COMPETENCIES
REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in Interior Design and/or Architecture from an accredited 4 year+ program
- Minimum of 1 - 3 years of work experience in the industry
- Excellent presentation skills including space planning and drawing
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Sketchup, and Microsoft Office Suite (Experience in Studio Designer, Specsources, Bluebeam, Revit, 3DSMax is a plus)
- Experience selecting and specifying lighting, furnishings, hardware, floor/window coverings, materials, and finishes, while managing vendor relations
- Must be able to create construction documents, section details, presentation boards, 2D/3D renderings
- Experience with quotes, proposals, budgets, purchase orders and purchasing process
- Experience in the production of specification deliverables
- Must have strong presentation and public speaking skills
- Must be able to work independently, as well as interact effectively with the design team on multiple projects.
- Must have strong knowledge of trade resources, vendors, and industry standards

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- This position will be working in a typical office setting, with no extremes in temperature or lighting
- Able to occasionally travel and present at offsite locations in the Bay Area
- Applicants should be able to work with equipment typically found in an office and should be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without accommodation. Possible accommodations needed should be discussed prior to the onset of employment and/or the interview process
- Ability to lift 25lbs and transport items in and out of vehicles. Ability to work on feet/run errands for 4+ hours per day as needed. Ability to sit at a desk for 6+ hours per day
