Job Description
The SQL Server DBA will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, performance, and support of critical SQL Server DB systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate and business applications. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Day to day you will be responsible for the development and support of different versions of SQL server and other database technologies like MySQL, Oracle, etc., ensuring their optimal functioning (security, health, performance, etc.).
THIS IS AN ON-SITE POSITION THAT CAN SIT IN ONE OF THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS: HERNDON, VA; WASHINGTON, DC; ATLANTA, GA OR OVERLAND PARK, KS.
- Manage SQL Server databases and other RDBMS through different product lifecycles from development to mission-critical production systems.
- Install, Configure, and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
- Support 24x7 operational database support including periodic on-call rotation.
- Conduct diagnostic tests and evaluate performance metrics on the databases.
- Monitor the databases to ensure system health, functionality and remediate problems/issues in a timely manner.
- Migrate/convert databases from Oracle 11g, 12c and 19c to MS SQL server.
- Execute & maintain SQL scripts and utility jobs for MS SQL database maintenance.
- Implement & manage MS SQL database backups and restore, clustering, always on, failover and load balancing technologies.
- Perform DB refreshes from Prod to lower environments.
- Monitor database status, logs, space utilization, extents, locks, blockings and deadlocks and clearing them accordingly.
- Implement and support MS SQL (Active/Passive & Active/Active), Multi Node Clustering for four node clusters.
- Apply data modeling techniques to ensure that development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations.
- Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing end-to-end problem resolution.
- Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
- Assist developers and application owners with complex query tuning and optimization.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
- Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.
- Perform all other DB related tasks and activities as assigned.

Required Experience and skills:
- 3+ years’ experience supporting MS SQL Server Databases.
- Demonstrated experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Demonstrated experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
- Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server.
- Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory.
- Experience creating and deploying SSRS, SSIS and SSAS packages.
- Experience with MySQL, Oracle and MariaDB running on Linux.
- Highly Desired: Experience with VMware, NetApp and SSRS.
- Knowledge of Oracle DB in a Unix environment.
- Knowledge with Rubrik MS SQL backup technology.
- Knowledge with SQL Monitor MS SQL performance monitoring tool.
- Knowledge with Power Script/DBATools.
