Person will work in the Washington D.C. office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Will work from home Monday and Friday. Normal business hours.
This individual will perform Access database administration to support day-to-day program operations related to processing of personnel-related data. Additional responsibilities will include performing database and application upgrades, backups, restores, etc.
Additionally, this individual will maintain, enhance, and develop queries, data extracts and transformation logic to support a data conversion from Access to a new enterprise application that is being deployed.
Responsible for the evaluation, design and development of existing databases or systems that integrate with or access databases. Support and create reports with SQL Server Reporting Services. Support and create data flows with SQL Server Integration Services and Data Transformation Services. Handle common database procedures such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, etc. Write SQL queries and the performance of queries; develop and update data models that support applicable data standards and the ability for VA to adopt emerging industry data standards
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, developing, and/or executing SQL queries to perform inserts, updates, and other maintenance on existing tables to support program operations
- Executing and distributing time-sensitive reports related to the program
- Researching questions and issues raised by program personnel
- Managing database backups and performing restores, if required
- Working with external vendor(s) to resolve issues with data and reports
- Designing, developing, and/or executing SQL queries to create data extracts to support a system conversion
- Designing and developing transformation logic using SQL queries, Access basic, and/or macros to map data from the existing Access data model to an import specification template for the data conversion
- Working with multiple third parties to clarify how database fields are utilized and need to be mapped
- Designing and developing queries and tools within Access to facilitate data cleansing, data formatting, data deduplication, etc. as part of the data extraction and transformation logic
- Reviewing output of data extracts to identify potential issues and collaborating with project team members to resolve issues
- Being accountable to project management to make commitments to achieve the project schedule and to ensure project quality
- Advising non-technical stakeholders regarding the data migration status, technical issues and potential resolutions, facilitating informed decision-making, etc.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Prior experience with Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) tools and processes in support of an application migration
- Prior experience working with project teams to facilitate data cleansing, data validation, and data affirmation
- Experience with complex SQL queries including subqueries, inner and outer joins, group by, trims, cast conversions, etc.
- Experience creating and manipulating recordsets using Access basic
- Experience reconciling data and reports
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
