We are seeking to fill one full time Data Engineer I position immediately in our Chicago, IL office.
Impact Statement
As a Data Engineer I, in the Data Engineering team, you will apply your design and coding skills in several areas including: database development for data collections, client and internal support, and software testing. The Data Engineering team serves an important role for all participants in the energy markets. This team is tasked with collecting new data and creating derivative, value-added datasets from that data to help our clients solve problems. Your design solutions are built to ensure the highest level of data completeness, correctness, and timeliness for real time data streams of large, complex time series data.
This position offers candidates an opportunity to develop greater knowledge of energy markets, cloud-based software products, and SaaS businesses, while applying and developing technical, research, and customer-facing skills with one of the most creative and hard-working staff in the industry. What you will do with us…
- Ingest, clean, normalize, and combine non-uniform data sources through scraping websites, consuming data APIs, consuming FTP feeds, etc.
- Ensure highest possible completeness, timeliness, quality and integrity of Yes Energy Data
- Create/design new data structures which provide optimized value to customers and their changing reporting needs.
- Maintain database packages, procedures, views, functions, Oracle types for internal systems, metadata systems and related internal tools and tools.
- Support customers with data-related questions
- Ensure database performance through proactive review and analysis
- Participate in weekly rotation of data on-call shifts, including nights & weekends
- Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems
- Contribute to technical departmental standards in such areas as change control, configuration management, development methodology, and coding standards
- Ensure all database systems meet business and performance requirements
- Creation and maintenance of technical documentation
- Participate in product release testing
We do ask that you have…
- 1-2+ years of relevant experience (depending upon education).
- 1+ years experience with SQL. Experience with PL/SQL is a plus.
- Familiarity with data integration and ETL tools.
- Basic python, shell scripting, or OOP languages knowledge are nice to have.
- Passion for optimizing system performance and scalability.
- Stewardship of data quality problems and solutions; passion for data quality
- Creative problem solving abilities
- Analytic and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to apply a testing mindset to own code
- Ability to embrace a customer service mindset
- Strong communication, interpersonnel, influence, collaboration and leadership skills
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies

Compensation and Benefits
We offer strongly competitive salaries and real bonuses that are achievable and that you can impact. Base Compensation Range: $85,000 - $115,00 depending on experience and location.
