Data Science Solutions, Privacy & Ethics team is part of J&J Innovative Medicine’s Data Science and Digital Health department. This team focuses on building innovated data products and Solutions for the entire Drug Discovery and development value chain: from target ID/Validation, molecule design, product development, clinical trial design, digital end points, clinical trial operations, and using real world data to advance our portfolio.

Job Responsibilities

We are committed to using innovative technology to improve healthcare outcomes worldwide. As part of this mission, we are seeking a GenAI/ML Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will apply your expertise in natural language processing (NLP), deep learning, generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), and large language models (LLM)s to enhance our Drug Discovery and development processes. The candidate is a leading technical contributor and creative problem solver with a strong background in design and hands-on development expertise in ML (Machine Learning), LLMs, GenAI with a consistent track record of accomplishment in integrating solutions to establish advanced AI-driven capabilities. You will be at the forefront of integrating pioneering AI/ML technologies to generate innovative data products and Solutions that support J&J IM Drug Discovery and development initiatives.

• Lead the engineering efforts in creating and implementing methodologies and workflows for ML/GenAI model engineering, LLM advancements, and deployment frameworks optimization, maintaining alignment with Drug Discovery Data Engineering and Solutions strategic direction.
• Maintain and optimize existing GenAI solutions. Develop AI pipelines for various data processing needs (including data ingestion, preprocessing modules, search and retrieval, and Retrieval Augmented Generation) and ensure the solutions meet all technical and business requirements.
• Collaborate with multi-functional teams, like data scientists and ML engineers, to implement innovative technologies that enhance efficiency and integrate seamlessly within production infrastructures.
• Collaboratively work with DevOps/MLOps teams to create tools for evaluating model performance during development and user acceptance testing stages.
• Work with the development team to deploy GenAI models, ensuring reliability and scalability.
• Participate in roadmap planning to ensure technical objectives align with business goals.
• Document GenAI processes and models meticulously to facilitate knowledge sharing.
• Participate in multi-functional meetings to share knowledge, set shared goals, and drive innovation.
• Lead and mentor junior team members in GenAI and DevOps practices, embedding a culture of continuous improvement.
• Regularly evaluate and enhance GenAI and DevOps processes to improve organizational efficiency and quality.

Qualifications

• Desired Ph.D. or master's degree in bioengineering, computer science, IT, bioinformatics, physics, mathematics, or related.
• 5+ years of experience in applying ML, NLP, and GenAI technologies using structured and unstructured data.
• Programming experience with Python and its key AI libraries (LangChain, Keras, TensorFlow, OpenAI).
• Demonstrated success in developing traditional and transformer-based NLP models and optimizing LLMs and GenAI systems.
• Expertise in CI/CD implementations using git and CI/CD stacks, and containerization technologies.
• Experience in advanced search and information retrieval, inclusive of implementation of semantic search using embeddings.
• Preferred experience in pharmaceutical or biotech research environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project delivery skills, inclusive of managing third parties/vendors.
• Record of leading improvement initiatives with multi-disciplinary and remote partners.
• Excellent customer focus, networking, communication, and presentation skills.
• Experience in agile decision-making, performance management, and commitment to continuous learning.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize work, and deliver maximum business value.
• Ability to translate discussions into actionable project plans.
• Willingness to travel less than 25% to conferences and internal meetings.

Expected Salary : $113,000 - $170,000
