Job Summary and Qualifications

The Consulting Data Analyst is an analytically focused position within the Risk, Governance, and Reporting (RGR) team in the Information Protection & Security (IPS) department at HCA Healthcare. The RGR team consists of the following functional areas: Risk Management, Remediation Coordination, Information Governance, and Data Analytics.

This position is responsible for innovating new capabilities by driving requirements for the design, development, testing and deployment of data solutions with the objective to make risk visible, drive awareness and accountability, and facilitate well-informed decision making. This position will deliver these risk-based data solutions for areas of IPS including Risk Management, Physical Security, Identity Engagement, Privacy, Communications and Training, and Field Operations.

This position will serve as a subject matter expert and mentor for other members of the Data Analytics team to provide guidance and support for their assigned functional areas, and for providing input and design for the future strategy and maturity of the Data Analytics team.

This position requires a combination of strategic vision, creative visual design for reporting data, an ability to translate complex data into business and risk requirements, and demonstrated interpersonal competencies of listening, communicating, consulting, teaching, negotiating, and influencing. The successful candidate will possess a natural intellectual curiosity to learn new things and proficiency at problem solving as well as expertise in data content, which can only be facilitated through much querying, analysis, and engagement in our business and risk operations.

Duties will also include analyzing and understanding business risk processes and problems, creating of reporting requirements, and identifying and defining the data linkage within and across subject areas within IPS. This role will work with others on data gathering/manipulation and dashboard/report development and distribution.

The ideal candidate will have practical experience in one or more of the following domains: SQL, PowerBI, Python, and general automation skills, MS Office Suite (e.g., Excel), data storytelling, and data correlation.

Major Responsibilities:

The Consulting Data Analyst will drive requirements to help evolve a data-centric risk reporting capability for the Information Protection & Security department. 

This person will be responsible for:

• Simplifying complex and varied data sets into easy-to-consume stories and visuals to facilitate well-informed decision making by C-level leaders at the corporate office and in the field

• Working in tandem with other IPS teams to develop dashboards and reports that are:

o Externally focused towards lines of business and ITG to drive ownership and accountability of risk, and ultimately, drive action to either remediate, mitigate, avoid, accept, or transfer risk; and

o Internally focused within IPS to drive strategy, planning and prioritization of efforts

• Developing and maintaining metrics that can be used to support Key Risk and Performance Indicators in the IPS risk register

This position will achieve these objectives by:

• Working closely with other IPS teams to drive integration of data sources from disparate teams within IPS, Information Technology Group (ITG), and the business

• Analyzing these data sets to understand how/if they relate to each other

• Creating and following standardized processes to manage, analyze, correlate and present data

o Data types include incidents, controls, log & event correlation data, Identity & Access data, vulnerabilities, threat intelligence and trends, healthcare sector trends and benchmarks, external security trends, etc.

• This position will initially focus on readily available IPS data sets to create valuable work product and will subsequently work to identify missing data that could be obtained from teams across multiple organizations within HCA Healthcare

Other Responsibilities include:

• Defining requirements for correlating existing data sets to risk

• Presenting data in clear and meaningful ways to be consumed by multiple audiences

• Identifying additional data points that should be captured

• Collecting and collating ad-hoc data as needed

• Leading efforts to operationalize data collection processes

• Thinking analytically and critically with an eye toward report standardization and automation

• Constantly analyzing risk data to identify trends and patterns

• Reviewing the tools we use for data capture and recommend enhancements and improvements where appropriate

• Assisting in capturing, analyzing, and documenting requirements for analytical solutions

• Working collaboratively with IPS, ITG and Business Unit staff to understand needs for information delivery

• Translating these requirements into actionable and effective work products

• With minimal direction and supervision, acting as subject matter specialist to assist development of the appropriate strategies, plans, requirements and approaches to ensure successful implementation of reports, dashboards and scorecards.

• Presenting data formally and informally and facilitating discussions regarding data outputs

• Growing professionally to assume greater responsibilities for the activities listed above and demonstrate hands-on technical capability

• Building and maintaining strong, effective working relationships with IPS staff, business owners, ITG leadership and staff, and other stakeholders involved with IPS data and reporting initiatives

• Performing other duties as assigned

• Practicing and adhering to the Code of Conduct philosophy and Mission and Value Statement

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred

• 7+ years of experience in a Data Analyst or similar role required

• 1+ year(s) of experience in data visualization preferred

• 1+ year(s) of experience in using data to define business requirements and deliverable work product preferred

• 1+ year(s) of experience in some combination of audit, risk management, information security, privacy, and technology preferred

• Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience

Licenses, Certifications, & Training:

• Certifications such as CISSP, CISA, HCISPP, CHC, CHPC, CHSP, and/or CISM preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Behaviors:

• Ability to translate business needs into requirements for data visualization work products

• Familiarity with multiple technologies that will serve both as sources of data and mechanisms for building analysis and reporting capabilities (e.g., GRC platforms, Splunk, ServiceNow, PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik, Excel, relational databases such as SQL and Teradata, etc.)

• Expertise in Microsoft Excel

• Drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques as the role develops

• Possess strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with individuals at various levels within the organization

• Ability to be adaptable and flexible, thrive in ambiguity, and handle sometimes changing priorities

• Ability to define, learn, understand, and apply new technologies, methods, and processes

• A proven communicator and collaborator with a track record of building strong, meaningful relationships
