Battery Cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. We are seeking a highly motivated Quality Leader to help continuously drive improvements to 4680 quality by leading and organization of highly talented engineers focused on gathering data from downstream customers, the fleet as well as building robust quality systems. Cell manufacturing requires orders of magnitude better quality than traditional manufacturing, the key to sustained success and scalability is a robust quality system. This person will build off the world class system Tesla has in place and continuously drive improvements to the system. They will also work with fleet analytics to build and maintain a model for product warranty and relative failure modes. This person is seasoned in manufacturing quality or reliability engineering for high reliability applications such as Li-on cells, medical or a similar field with several years’ experience.
- Interface with downstream customers, pack, vehicle, and the field. Gathering relevant information on applications and performance of 4680 cells
- Own the containment process as well as any potential escapes and be accountable to close actions that ensure issues cannot reoccur
- Investigate and collect data on opportunities for improvements to 4680 quality and quantify impact
- Build fundamental understanding of complex technical challenges (design, manufacturing, integration, etc.) based on data collected
- Leads risk assessments at the product/manufacturing level and drives mitigation
- Drive implementation of QMS program across all global Tesla 4680 Cell Manufacturing factories
- Define and propose business process performance metrics for all levels of the organization. Making improvements to the quality management system and how the elements interface with one another
- Using a data driven approach to turn opportunities into actionable tasks that can be deployed to engineering teams, then track those actions to closure
- Own KPI’s that describe the quality performance of the 4680 program
- Interface with reliability engineering teams to implement findings from the field, CAE, lifetime testing as well as abuse engineering
- 5 – 10+ years experience in manufacturing quality, reliability, or relevant field
- Experience working with lithium-ion cells or high reliability products like medical or aerospace is preferred
- Bachelor's Degree in a Technical discipline, evidence of exceptional experience, or equivalent
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to influence stakeholders with the technical skills to back it up
- Data analytical skills using multiple platforms and languages. (SQL, Python, Tableau, Matlab, JMP, etc.) is preferred
- Years of experience using structured problem-solving methods to root cause, solve and iteratively improve product quality
- Detail oriented, with the ability to effectively handle multiple priorities
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across levels and functions
- Can demonstrate ability to perform deadlines and perform under high pressure
- Fluent with common MS office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
