Job description

Our Print Production team (Product Commercialization & Process Improvement) is looking for an Austin-based Print Production & Quality ControlTeam Leader to join their team here at our Store Support Headquarters.
This individual will be expected to work out of our Downtown Austin HQ. We are following hybrid office/work from home model (three days per week in-office/two days work from home).

The job of the Print Production & Quality Control (PPS & QC) Team Leader is to lead the Print Production Specialist Team by overseeing the optimization and maintenance of the Team’s process, establishment of best practices, and identification of gaps, leading with practices and policies that support key Sourcing Department strategic priorities. The PPS & QC Team Leader is also responsible for Team support with project troubleshooting, as well as oversight and continued development of the Printed Packaging Quality Control Program for Whole Foods Market’s Exclusive Brands.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Team of 5 (minimum) Print Production Specialists, overseeing and supporting their daily responsibilities and processes, as indicated below, as well as leading and coaching team in their career and skill progression guided by our Whole Foods Market Leadership Principles.
    • Reviewing all Print Specifications and dieline files to ensure accuracy and utility of files. Obtaining clarification on any unclear details regarding dieline files and printer specifications.
    • Identifying ideal and/or minimum printing stations and capabilities necessary to produce graphics in accordance with applicable Whole Foods Market Brand Guidelines and achieve ideal print quality.
    • Communicate with Exclusive Brands product suppliers, printers and internal stakeholders regarding print capability-related questions and concerns. Schedule calls, as needed, to discuss questions regarding file-set up with the goal of balancing successful Print Production with cost considerations.
    • Compile, organize and communicate all issues, revisions, questions, or cautions pertaining to printer proofs and return to designated printer.
    • Receive and review pre-press or printer proofs for accuracy, consistency and brand standards against files originally supplied.
    • Ensure working design and support art files are current and properly archived upon project completion, including archiving of PDF proofs with electronic files (where applicable).
    • Attend certain press checks to ensure optimal print quality.
    • Review first production of all product packaging for print quality expectations. Follow up with all printers as necessary to correct/improve print quality for subsequent press runs.
  • Lead process standardization across the Print Production Specialist team to ensure consistency of execution.
  • Ensure Print Production and Quality Control Processes are well-documented and maintained both for reference and training.
  • Monitor project statuses to ensure timeliness of key project milestones related to production of printed packaging.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in process, efficiency, work quality and timeliness of activities involving Print Production Specialists. Work directly with Process Improvement Team to identify scope of improvements and to support with training and adoption efforts for any process improvements and/or new Quality Control measure involving Print Production Specialists.
  • Establish and maintain internal program for Print Quality Audits, in addition to First-Production Quality review practices.
  • Assists in resolution of project work barriers (as needed) pertaining to proofing, print station optimization, substrate challenges and/or cost.


Qualifications:

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent listening skills, attention to detail and ability to interpret and incorporate detailed feedback on food packaging graphics.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite including Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat Pro.
  • Clear and effective communication skills.
  • Flexible and able to take direction well and adapt to timeline developments and reprioritize.
  • 5+ years of experience in printing, prepress or production art for offset and/or flexographic printing.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience
  • Knowledge / familiarity with food packaging graphics and substrates a plus.
  • Project management skills or experience.
