Cost Accounting Manager
Department: Finance, Corporate

Summary:
As a Cost Accounting Manager, you will play a critical role in our organization by overseeing the Cost Accounting functions. You will be responsible for managing, analyzing, and reporting on the costs associated with our company's operations. The Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for setting up and maintaining accurate process cost information, reconciliation of standard costs to actual costs, maintenance of perpetual inventory system, participating in the month end close and budgeting process, and assisting with day-to-day operations and reporting requirements. This position will be responsible for developing/maintaining an effective Cost Accounting system to reduce cost and improve overall profitability. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, cost analysis, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments to optimize cost-efficiency and enhance profitability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
  • Cost Analysis: Analyze and evaluate all aspects of production and operational costs, including direct and indirect costs, and provide recommendations for cost reduction and process improvement.
  • System Management (JDE): Take ownership of the JD Edwards (JDE) system as it pertains to Cost Accounting. Maintain and optimize the JDE system for Cost Accounting processes, ensuring data integrity and efficient operations. Partner with JDE consultants on updates to the system as it relates to costing.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the valuation of inventory, reconcile inventory accounts, and perform regular inventory audits. Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of inventory-related costs.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual cost reports, including cost of goods sold (COGS) analysis, to senior management. Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations, using the JD Edwards (JDE) system for reporting.
  • Standard Costing: Establish and maintain standard costing processes, ensuring accuracy and consistency. Regularly update standard costs to reflect current market conditions and operational changes in the JD Edwards (JDE) system.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments, such as manufacturing, procurement, and finance, to provide cost insights and support decision-making. Work with teams to identify opportunities for cost reduction, utilizing the JD Edwards (JDE) system where applicable.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes within the JD Edwards (JDE) system and improve efficiency. Implement best practices and automation where possible.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to internal controls, accounting policies, and relevant accounting standards. Assist with internal and external audits, leveraging the JD Edwards (JDE) system for data retrieval and reporting.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop and manage cost budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis to ensure alignment with the company's financial objectives.
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary by Manager

Required Education and/or Experience:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation is strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP, general accounting processes and internal controls, and financial analysis tools and techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,etc)

Travel:
Up to 50% travel
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 clerical lbs.
  • Work environment is normally in an office setting. Must be able to make frequent rounds in a warehouse environment
  • Ability to view a computer screen and type for extended hours
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Other physical requirements include moderate standing and occasional squatting, bending, and twisting
  • Ability to work around a variety of different smells and aromas
  • Ability to adjust work schedule as business needs require.
