Responsible for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing back to the underlying activities. The Cost Accountant must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management.
- Contributes to creating budgets and ensures production costs remain within budget
- Collects accounting and financial data related to assets and liabilities gained and incurred by the various departments within the company
- Prepare reports and accounting analysis to upper management related to opportunities to control costs and wastes and increase profitability
- Analyzes the costs of materials, processes, and labor to provide management with information to determine methods of reducing production costs
- Develops and implements a company's cost procedures and policies
- Prepares product cost statements, investigating products to establish manufacturing costs
- Maintains responsibility for routine compilation of parts manufacturing costs for payroll, inventory accountability, distribution of factory labor, verification of actual costs and computation of variances
- Checks and clears data on labor and materials costs burden and expense items, inventory, and profit and loss adjustments
- Devises, installs or controls systems for determining unit cost of products or services
- Distributes costs between the various divisions of management and production
- Classifies production costs into wages, material and overhead
- Supports annual external audits
Education & Skill requirements
- BS in Accounting
- Five years of Cost Accounting experience
- Experience with using an ERP system (SAP)
