TITLE: Coordinator of Staff Development, Math, and Science
FLSA: Exempt
JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY:
This position is the instructional leader in the area of Staff Development, Mathematics and Science instructional design and implementation. This person will also work closely with the District and building level administration to ensure that schools maintain vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment for rigorous, college-ready Math and Science instruction. The Coordinator of Staff Development will support the creation, implementation, and assessment of a rigorous, college-preparatory program for all students. The position serves as the main Math and Science point of contact between schools and the District Leadership Team.
Position reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services.
Staff Development Responsibilities
- Coordinates Staff Development opportunities in and out of the district (conferences, workshops, etc.)
- Provides assistance to schools in the effective implementation of high impact Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Coordinates and provides district-wide professional development in regards to the district's instructional focus, including TLT Teacher Leader Academy and Canvas courses
- Maintains the Spartanburg Two Professional Development website and calendar, posting opportunities throughout the calendar year including all core instructional software and needed graduate courses
- Coordinates the planning of District PD Days for August, January, February, and March with members of the Instruction Team
- Facilitates Assistant Principals Instruction PD and Seminars monthly
- Maintains PD Express (add teachers, courses, and renewal credits for all PD)
- Facilitates professional development and monitors district usage of the Instruction Hub - Safari Montage Learning Object Repository (with members of the Instruction Team)
- Works with Assistant Superintendent for Instruction to coordinate and plan D2 LEADs program for aspiring administrators
- Leads, coordinates, and conducts the Three (3)-Day Rubric 4.0 Summer Training (with the assistance of the Director of Teacher Quality and Literacy)
- Assists the Coordinator of Teacher Quality with closing out Adept Evaluations during the months of April-June
Math/Science Responsibilities
- Provides leadership in the implementation of instructional practices, delivery systems, and formative assessments that maximize student growth in math and Science
- Provides district-wide professional development for math coaches and instructional staff in math
- Coordinates and facilities monthly instructional coach meetings (with the Instruction Team)
- Maintains the Instructional Coach Website (with the Director of Teacher Quality and Literacy)
- Works with coaches to create PD for their schools that are relevant to our math and Science goals as well as district PLC goals
- Provides leadership to schools in effective implementation of high impact, data-driven professional learning communities
- Provides leadership in a wide range of math and Science assessments, analysis of math and Science assessment data, and math intervention programs
- Supports the curriculum renewal and evaluation process for math and Science K-12
- Meets regularly with district personnel, math coaches, and principals to monitor and support math and Science implementation
- Coordinates and provides a variety of district-wide professional development opportunities including creating and instructing math and Science courses for teachers and administrators
- Attends monthly SCLME (math) meetings and SCSELA (science) meetings
- Works collaboratively with District Science Leads
- Ensures effective implementation of i-Ready and other adaptive math software
- Facilitates curriculum writing and revisions for math and Science (with members of the Instruction Team)
- Coordinates, purchases and arranges delivery and training for math and Science instructional materials
- Ensures effective implementation of digital resources for science and math
Other Staff Development/Curriculum Areas
- Meets with World Language Lead Teachers and oversees curriculum needs
- Assists with the implementation of the district's ADEPT plan and Induction Program
- Assists with the 2-day SC Mentor Credential Summer Training
- Provides leadership in other curricular areas as directed by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education/Certification:
- Master's Degree or higher from an approved educational institution
- Valid South Carolina teacher certificate
- Experience:
- Five (5) years successful teaching experience in public schools
- Experience as an Instructional Coach, Assistant Principal, or Principal preferred, but not required
- Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction;
- Understands and is able to perform the role of a leader as an advocate and administrator district-wide for math, including curriculum and operations knowledge;
- Skill, knowledge, and ability to communicate with a broad constituency;
- Experience in conducting Staff Development and/or training;
- Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work well with a diverse population; and,
- Comply with all district and state confidentiality requirements.
