Job Description:
As a member of the Ogden Honors College and Enrollment Management staff, the Coordinator of Honorific Scholarships will oversee the top merit-based scholarship selection processes at LSU. The Coordinator will also be the primary mentor for LSU's top merit-based scholarship recipients (a cohort of c. 100 students), including the Stamps, President's Alumni, and Sternberg Scholarship recipients.
Job Responsibilities:
Oversight of the top merit-based scholarships cohorts. 20%
- Organize scholar programs, functions and events.
- Work with student leaders in the cohort to plan and execute scholar programming.
- Serve as the liaison for coordination with the National Stamps Foundation, including creation of the annual report, monthly scholar updates to their Communications Director.
Advise and mentor Stamps, President's Alumni Scholars, Sternberg Scholars Conduct orientation for incoming freshmen. 20%
- Conduct fall/spring advising sessions for each student.
- Track progression in majors, midterm/final grades, GPA, honors requirements.
- Work closely with faculty and staff within the Honors College, Enrollment Management and across campus to ensure the continued success of the scholarship students.
Manage Stamps Scholars enrichment fund use and other scholarship-specific funding. 20%
- Work with Stamps Scholars to find useful and appropriate experiences for enrichment fund use.
- Review and approve travel enrichment fund requests.
- Process documentation from students and hold advising appointments prior to travel to discuss logistics.
- Manage travel approvals, reimbursements and all travel-related processing for Stamps Scholars. Submit all paperwork, on behalf of the students on Workday for spend authorizations and expense reports. Book flights through state travel agency. Work with the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office to process other expenses.
Management of Scholars Weekend. 20%
- Assist in admissions yielding efforts with high achieving students.
- Coordinate selection committee for Scholars Weekend participation.
- Coordinate faculty participation for application review and interviews.
- Organize all aspects of the selection process, including choosing interview panels, scoring of essays/resumes/interviews, ranking process, etc.
- Plan and coordinate all aspects of Scholars Weekend.
- Compile and submit institutional nominees and alternative to Stamps Foundation.
National Fellowships and Scholarships support. 15%
- Participate in internal selection process and practice interviews for national fellowships and scholarships candidates and assist advising as needed, especially Stamps and PA.
Other duties as assigned by the Dean. 5%
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience.
Specific Experience - Experience in scholarship advising or management.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree with 1 year of experience.
Specific Experience - Experience in scholarship advising and management.
Additional Requirements:
- FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency.
