The Boeing Academy for STEM Learning (BASL), education division seeks to hire a Coordinator, Community Engagement to build authentic relationships between communities and the institution making Community Engagement desirable, and necessary as it leads to more equitable, sustainable decisions and improves the livelihood of our local community. Summary

The Program Coordinator, Community Engagement at The Boeing Academy for STEM Learning (BASL), the education division of The Museum of Flight, supports the mission of the Museum by leading education-focused Community Engagement and integrating learnings and research-based educational best-practices into our programs. This person is responsible for coordination with department leadership to work collaboratively with Museum-wide Community Engagement initiatives to build relationships with the surrounding community in effort to promote and recruit program participants. Aligning with the Museum of Flight’s vision and mission, this role will provide input to other Education Department and Museum staff, and partners to assist in leading the development, delivery, and implementation of a large-scale Community Engagement program. Balancing the creative process of designing, research-based best-practices for working with diverse learners, and the organized process of coordinating, this position is responsible for assisting with building and delivering programs that are marketable, feasible, and scalable for a diversity of learners.

This Program Coordinator is a key member of the Museum’s Boeing Academy for Museum Learning (BASL) team and will help ensure BASL mission and values are represented in programming. Critical to their success as a Coordinator at The Museum of Flight, the person in this role leads their work with attention and focus on building diverse and inclusive experiences.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. In coordination with department leadership, work collaboratively with Museum-wide Community Engagement initiatives, to represent the Museum at various state-wide educational conferences, fairs, school/community events, and tradeshows expanding Museum’s educational engagement throughout the State of Washington.
  2. Coordinate resources and tasks with both internal and external stakeholders, paying particular attention to objectives, stated deliverables, and team effectiveness.
  3. Conduct workshops, presentations, and education events and ensure STEM and aerospace education is delivered to the public.
  4. Assist in the development and implementation of program objectives, initiatives, processes, and resources.
  5. Assist team with meeting equitable engagement goals, including tracking and executing program access best practices, to better engage with hard-to-reach audiences.
  6. Build public surveys using agency survey tool, including translated content.
  7. Support, coordinate, and monitor program specific objectives and requirements which may include daily program operations, grant reporting, supplies tracking, and/or evaluations.
  8. Represent Aerospace Education Center (AEC) programming to both internal and external constituencies with respect to program awareness, implementation, and operations. Provides program specific knowledge, guidance, support, and expertise to colleagues and partners.
  9. Collaborate with marketing staff to develop relevant promotional materials targeting diverse audiences.
  10. In partnership with program leadership, may provide oversight and guidance with daily operations including team support, facilitation, volunteers, and colleagues.
  11. May train Museum Educators and support staff on program curriculum and design including content, facilitation, and evaluation criteria.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies or relevant field such as education or science. May accept an equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Two (2) years recent work experience in instructional design, educational program oversight and development.
  • Previous instructional experience in non-traditional, formal and/or informal educational settings, STEM fields, preferred.
  • Museum environment related experience a plus.

 

Knowledge

  • Practical knowledge of education standards and practices.
  • Proven knowledge of best practices in teaching and learning which actively engages students, families, and educators.
  • Proven knowledge of best practices in engaging with STEM and/or related industry professionals.
  • Practical knowledge of aviation and aerospace is highly preferred.

 

Skill

  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills, strong attention to details, deadline driven.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, customer service mindset with the ability to work among a diverse population including all levels of staff, students, teachers, parents, vendors, and volunteers.

 

Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, to diverse populations including ability to transfer knowledge in an informal educational environment to students of various ages and backgrounds.
  • Able to prioritize and plan work activities and use time efficiently in a collaborative team environment with a wide variety of individuals and departments.
  • Innovative in practice, remains open to new ideas and is able and willing to test and implement updates in order to improve programs, or offer a new perspective on existing programs.
  • Ability to train and mentor program related staffto achieve stated outcomes.
  • Demonstrates competency with standard and customized databases and technology; collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

 

License & Certification

  • Must possess a current driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

  • This position works primarily Monday through Friday with flexibility for evening and variable hours based on Museum need.
  • Some local and out of area travel is expected for this position.

  • Onsite attendance is essential to fulfill some of the duties of this position.
  • Normal office conditions apply including lengthy periods of sitting or standing.
  • Ability to occasionally move through physical Museum campus and program spaces.
  • Occasionally and properly lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
  • The ability to bend, carry, reach to the side, front and overhead, push, pull, focus, walk, stand, twist, and squat are frequent requirements in an educational program setting.

Paid-Time Off

Compensation

The hourly range for this position is $22.00 to $30.00 depending on experience.
