POSITION OVERVIEW

The Pastry Cook assists in the production of pastries and desserts for banquets, ensuring food quality according to department standards and ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of work areas and equipment in accordance with Health Department standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary:

  • Create and execute a diverse range of high-quality pastries, desserts, and baked goods, adhering to established recipes and techniques
  • Ensure consistency and excellence in taste, texture, and presentation of all pastry items
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to conceptualize and develop new pastry offerings that align with current culinary trends and customer preferences
  • Maintain strict standards of quality and hygiene in all aspects of pastry production, including ingredient sourcing, storage, and handling
  • Work closely with other chefs and kitchen staff to coordinate meal preparation and ensure a seamless service flow
  • Monitor inventory levels of pastry ingredients and supplies, and communicate ordering needs in a timely manner
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and food handling guidelines
  • Temporary or permanent duties and responsibilities may be added to or modified as deemed necessary

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Six (6) months of prior relevant experience in a luxury property preferred
  • Knowledge of pastry techniques, including baking, decorating, and plating
  • Creative flair and a passion for experimenting with flavors, textures, and presentation
  • Knowledge of how baking ingredients work together and how they can be used in creative ways
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations
  • Knowledge, understanding, and compliance with policies and procedures, job descriptions, daily memorandums, statutory requirements regarding health and safety, sanitation, proper chemical usage, fire procedures, and HACCP
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with guests, management, Members, and other outside contacts
  • Excellent organizational skills; be able to function under time constraints and deadlines with attention to detail
  • Time management skills to deliver orders on schedule and avoid food waste
  • Physical strength and stamina to spend long hours standing and performing repetitive motions
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include holidays, nights, and weekends
  • Work in a fast-paced, busy, and somewhat stressful environment

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Member must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state, and local regulations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in English may also be required.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The Member must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and must have the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces.
