Description
GM Romulus Propulsion Systems team is looking for an experienced controls and automation engineer to help lead support production operation and projects. The selected candidate will work at the GM manufacturing facility in Romulus, MI. The ideal candidate will support equipment both from a production as well as installation & start-up standpoint. Production is currently a 3-shift operation, and the candidate may be assigned to any one of the 3 shifts.
The selected candidate will be responsible for the Controls associated with assembly and machining. This may include installation, debug, runoff, and PPAP of equipment. Work is performed in a team environment, consisting of daily interactions with process engineering, maintenance, operations, and a multitude of others, to successfully maintain current production success. Work will be performed in a plant environment where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment.
What You'll Do:
Provide and implement input to equipment / system design improvements.
Participate in safety g-Risk activities as necessary with a cross functional group.
Participate in finalization of controls drawings and control check list deliverables.
Collaboration with the operations, process and maintenance teams,
Procedure development for operator station fault recovery and provide operator support as production is ramped up. Support operations and maintenance teams in diagnosing and troubleshooting issues.
Procedure development for controls/maintenance tasks.
Providing technical direction to and oversight of outside vendors as required.
Assist in project management with the execution team.
Participate in and support BPD (business plan deployment) meetings and activities.
Supports plant floor equipment installation, tracking and countermeasures.
Participate in the TIP (throughput improvement process) review meetings for areas of responsibility.
Participate in lessons learned gathering activity and feedback.
Assists in closure of all open issues.
Must be willing to work off shifts and extended hours from time to time.

Basic Required
5+ years industry experience as an automation Controls Engineer.
Strong technical knowledge of robotics/automation systems and the ability to apply these concepts within a manufacturing environment.
Experience in teaching Robot Paths and programming. (Fanuc, Kuka)
Knowledge of servo motors, motion control and drives.
Ability to design and trouble shoot electrical controls system.
Experience with Siemens PLC’s and HMI's including FactoryTalk View and RS Logix Ethernet communications protocols, experience with Siemens WinCC and TIA Portal.
Basic Preferred
Demonstrated understanding of plant floor work.
GM Global Common Controls Architecture.
Understanding of Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) and all manufacturing engineering disciplines.
Understanding of GMIT manufacturing IT systems.
Fanuc Robot programming experience including knowledge of robotic simulation and DCS implementation.
Machine Vision system experience.
Safety controls systems experience.
EDUCATION:
BS in Electrical Engineering or BS in Mechatronics or equivalent controls experience.
