Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Pontiac on a full-time basis.
The Role:
The Controls Engineer is an Individual contributor with recognized expertise. The Controls Engineer will be responsible for tasks and work throughout the entire vehicle development lifecycle including requirements definition, systems design and implementation, testing, and problem resolution. This role will also be responsible for the design, development and testing of engineering projects involving tools, equipment, plant, and manufacturing processes in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment. This is a 3rd Shift position, and the selected candidate will need to be able to work Sunday to Thursday from 10pm to 6:30am.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
Enforces safe work practices as the highest priority and implements objectives for ergonomics, health/safety, and housekeeping.
Responsible for electrical and Controls Engineering support of Stamping presses and associated process equipment
Provides technical assistance to production and maintenance departments
Responds to calls from the plant floor to assist with breakdowns
Manages electrical projects including new, replacement, operations improvements, and periodic repair and replacement
Supports the Throughput Improvement Process by representing engineering at TIP meetings and related activities to improving the plant's performance goals
Provides technical support, direction, and training to support personnel/Skilled Trades within the organization
Investigates systems and equipment problems and provides technical input in problem resolution
Develops cost estimates and plans for project activity
Maintains proficiency in their field
Support GMS implementation initiatives
Maintains good working relationships with peers, hourly employees, union, management, supplier community, and interfaces with necessary support functions outside of the Plant
Develops and monitors planning timetables and projects schedules
Utilizes best practices and common systems to support the overall competitive manufacturing initiative
Coordinates and communicates the development of changes to improve conditions for the manufacturing processes
Input into the establishment of plant budget for Manufacturing Engineering
Ensures long term and cost effective maintenance of equipment and facility
Exercises technical direction over and assists in supervision of skilled trades as required during project implementation

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
Ability to work 3rd Shift (10pm to 6:30 am) and overtime as required
Proficient in the application of fundamental electrical/mechanical concepts
Ability to create and modify electrical prints
Ability to interpret blueprints and Engineering Drawings
Ability to proficiently program and troubleshoot PLC’s (Rockwell/ Allen Bradley), safety PLC’s, HMI’s, robot automation, vision systems
Ability to troubleshoot servo motors, motion control, drives (Siemen’s, Rockwell), conveyance technologies, Fanuc robots, and safety controls
High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
High level of oral and written communication skills
Ability to troubleshoot and setup communication networks (DeviceNet, ControlNet, Ethernet IP)
Ability to support PC based control systems including computer rebuilds, backups, and restores
Familiarity with IT systems
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
Experience working on/ with automotive stamping press systems
Experience with Allen Bradley PLC 5, Logix 5000
Experience with Fanuc Robots
Experience with AutoCAD and Eplan
Knowledge of GM and US electrical standards
Experience working with UAW skilled trades
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience
