Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Lansing Grand River Stamping on a full-time basis.
The Role:
The Controls Engineer (CE) will manage projects while supporting daily manufacturing operations within a team environment. In this role work will be of technical nature with decisions made within the limits of general practices, policies and standards meeting required safety guidelines.
Work will involve complex manufacturing problems including the need to troubleshoot and follow issues to resolve. The CE will be responsible for equipment related to the manufacturing process. Substantial independent judgment in complex or unusual situations is typical in this role. The CE also may be responsible for training others and assigning work to a small group of employees.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities) :
Manage controls-related electrical projects including installation of new or replacement equipment, continuous improvement initiatives, and periodic repair and refurbishment
Participate in functional area plant meetings to represent Manufacturing Engineering and assist in improving the plant’s performance
Provide technical support, direction, and training to tech support and skilled trades personnel within the department
Support daily production activities, including investigating conveyor and equipment issues to provide technical input for problem resolution
Coordinate with departmental tech support engineers and Headquarters Vehicle Systems engineers on new model process and equipment planning, including model changes, throughput improvements, sourcing, etc.
Assist in the development of a project support plan between the plant, headquarters, and contractor resources (including paragraph 183 contractual requirements)
Support GMS and BIQ4 initiatives.
Utilize statistical methods for continuous improvement of plant controls systems
Enforce safe work practices as the highest priority and implement objectives for improved ergonomics, health/safety, and housekeeping
Maintain good working relationships with peers, hourly employees, union, management, supplier community, and interface with support functions outside the plant as required
Develop project planning timetables and report progress as required
Utilize best practices and common systems to improve competitiveness and reduce waste
Provide input into the establishment of Manufacturing Engineering plant budget, NPP funding forecasts, and appropriation request estimates
Ensure long-term, cost-effective maintenance of equipment and facilities
Manage projects to minimize investment cost while providing conveyors, equipment, and facilities that require a minimum operating cost (with maximum throughput, energy efficiency, etc.)
Additional Description
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
3 years of Controls Engineering experience
Ability to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift (position will most likely rotate shifts every few months)
Ability to work overtime as needed
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
3+ years of Controls Engineering experience
Bachelor's degree
PLC, Allen Bradley, and Unico experience
Experience working in a manufacturing environment
