The Conservation Education Manager is responsible for overseeing the Job Corps Conservation Education Program, which is a pilot project funded by USDA Forest Service in coordination with the Job Corps. This project manager position promotes forest science and conservation to Job Corps students through experiential environmental education programs. Program participants will gain a basic knowledge and awareness of the Forest Service mission and purpose, and their role as responsible citizens to protect and enhance the Nation’s natural resources for future generations. This role requires collaboration with SAF program director and support staff, Job Corps program leads, and training cadre.
The curriculum will be curated through a coordinated effort between Job Corps center personnel, USDA Forest Service personnel, and other key partners and subject area specialists. The curriculum will be designed as an interdisciplinary training-in-a-box for easy implementation, yet customizable based on local project opportunities for an on-the-ground hands-on learning experience.
The Conservation Education Manager will report to the Professional Development Director. This is a remote position.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Project Management:
- Design, develop, and manage the implementation of place-based experiential training program to Job Corps conservation students across the country.
- Attend training sessions to provide on-site logistical and programmatic support.
- Recruit and manage volunteer experienced experiential educators for the cadre to facilitate training sessions.
- Manage the logistics for the program including staff and cadre of educators required to implement training sessions.
- Coordinate with Regional Points of Contact and other appropriate personnel from USFS and Job Corps to identify field-based projects and source additional necessary materials and equipment for conservation students.
- Equip training cadre with instructional program and materials to effectively implement training for diverse outdoor learning spaces.
- Engage USFS subject area specialists to engage with conservation students and help inform career pathways.
- Issue conservation students a certificate for the successful completion of the training program.
- Assess success of training program with post-session evaluations.
- Provide quarterly summary reports for agreement compliance.
Technology:
- Host virtual meetings with Teams and Zoom platforms.
- Centralized file management according to SAF policies and volunteer managed engagement.
Other:
- Craft messaging for communications, recruitment, and reports.
- Recruit, manage, and engage volunteers.

- Ability to travel nationally 10-15% initially and up to 40-50% if program is expanded.
- As a remote position, all candidates must have the ability to work from home comfortably with full access to stable internet and ability to be on video phone calls with staff and partners.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Undergraduate or higher degree in Conservation Education, project management or related areas
- Experience with volunteer management in a professional society or association
- 3 years of experience in Conservation Education-oriented, association project management setting.
Preferred Education/Skills:
- Basic experience with AMS systems (iMIS preferred)
- Ease with virtual and in-person events
- Knowledge and passion for forests and natural resources a plus
Salary: $60k to $65k
