Job Summary

Reporting to and under general supervision of the Senior Director of Counseling and Psychological Services and Director of the Student Health Center, the Confidential Sexual Assault Victim's Advocate Coordinator performs highly complex professional Student Services work and serves as the main point of contact with primary responsibility to render advice and assistance to victims of Sexual Misconduct. The incumbent provides critical high-level emergency and ongoing support services in order to ensure the well-being and safety of victims of sexual misconduct. Services include confidential support and advocacy on behalf of the victims of sexual violence, Sexual Assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking and hate crimes; and to provide strategic high-level outreach, consultation, and education to parents, family, and the campus community regarding responding to and preventing sexual and other forms of violence, harassment or discrimination.

Key Qualifications

This position requires the equivalent of graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related. An advanced degree, in Counseling, Student Affairs, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or any related field, is preferred. The incumbent must have a minimum of four years progressively responsible related work experience. The Advocate must also have received a certificate evidencing completion of a training program in the counseling of Sexual Assault victims or has 40 hours of training as described below and must be supervised by an individual who qualifies as a psychotherapist or counselor. The training, supervised by a person qualified, shall include but not be limited to the following areas: law, medicine, societal attitudes, crisis intervention and counseling techniques, role playing, referral services and sexuality. Previous work experience in a university setting providing services to students preferred. Previous experience as a confidential advocate on a college campus preferred. Experience with event promotion and planning preferred. Intermediate with computers and Microsoft Office required. Knowledge of Google Suite, Titanium, Dreamweaver, and PeopleSoft preferred. Bilingual or multilingual Spanish speaking preferred.

Additionally, the incumbent must have demonstrated ability to interact with and guide students in an empathetic and supportive manner during crisis situations and be committed to social justice issues, multicultural competency/awareness, and experience working with diverse populations. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong presentation skills and experience as well as the ability to actively engage an audience. Must have excellent organizational skills. Must demonstrate ability to think critically, problem solve and actively advocate for students. The incumbent must be able to collaborate with the Title IX Coordinator and others to assist with the development and implementation of comprehensive student and faculty trainings. Ability to work collaboratively with campus and community law enforcement agencies, district attorney offices, and other entities of the criminal justice system is required.

Salary and Benefits

Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and will not exceed $5,732 a month. This is a full time, exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
