Job description

Computational Biologist, Junior
The Opportunity:
Booz Allen is looking for candidates to support bioinformatics and computational biology for multiple research programs in the Federal Government. The government has a need for someone with extensive expertise in computational analysis and data mining of human genomic whole genome and whole exome sequencing, epigenomics to identify differentially methylated regions (DMRs) on DNA, histones, and transcriptomic, including high throughput transcriptomics (HTT), and toxicogenomics data. The qualified candidate will work independently and in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to assist the government in such analyses.

You Have:

  • Experience with Next Generation Sequencing or microarray genotype data
  • Experience with multi-omics data analysis and biological data annotation, curation, and data mapping
  • Experience with data standardization and harmonization for controlled vocabularies and ontologies
  • Experience with programming and testing in R, Python, Perl, C++, or Java
  • Knowledge of data modeling concepts for biological data
  • Knowledge of human genomic data and common open-source bioinformatics analysis tools, including UCSC genome browser
  • Ability to ensure delivery of consistent and reproducible bioinformatic data analysis, analysis pipelines, programming and source code, informatics products, data sets, databases created and constructed, and approaches and solutions
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely to management, clients, researchers, and onsite staff
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Genetics, Computational Biology, Statistics, Bioinformatics, or Biomedical Engineering and 2+ years of experience with data analysis, or Master's degree in Genetics, Computational Biology, Statistics, Bioinformatics, or Biomedical Engineering and 1+ years of experience with data analysis

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience with toxicology or toxicogenomics
  • Experience with conducting analyses in high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud environments
  • Experience with biostatistics and statistical modeling
  • Experience with Ingenuity Pathway Analysis, Qiagen, or Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA)
  • Experience with conducting large-scale Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) analyses, including local ancestry inference
  • Experience with NLP, text mining, and Machine Learning methods
  • Experience with analysis of cell culture imaging
  • Experience with Cheminformatics
  • Ability to comprehend and stay current with new trends and developments in multiple areas of bioinformatics, data and text mining, and computational methods, and advise the government regarding possible applications of such procedures to the government's research

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $58,400.00 to $133,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees.
