About the Position:
The Parks, Recreation, & Community Services Department is looking to fill one (1) fully-funded vacancy and one (1) grant-funded vacancy. The Department is seeking energetic and self-motivated candidates who are interested in leading and building our aquatic team at our flagship pool, the Jerry Lewis Family Swim Center. Aquatic center staff work with all types of individuals (youth, adults, seniors, people living with disabilities, community organizations, etc.) patient, assertive, and quick-learners are highly desired.
The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will possess the following certifications:
- ARC Lifeguard
- CPR-AED
- First Aid
- ARC Lifeguard Training Instructor
- AFO or CPO (must obtain within 6 months of hire)

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department: High School diploma or G.E.D. plus two (2) years of major college course work in recreation, physical education or a related field or three (3) years of recreation or community service experience, preferably in a municipal government environment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
Possession of a valid California State Driver's License
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
When assigned to the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department the employee works under typical office conditions, and the noise level is usually quiet. Employee is regularly required to sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle and feel computers and standard business equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk; stoop, kneel, bend or crouch; and lift up to 25 pounds.
Supplemental Information
City Benefits:
The City offers an attractive compensation and benefit package, that includes:
  • Retirement - Participation in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). Classic members with less than 6 months separation: CalPERS 2% at 55, single highest year plan. New members, CalPERS 2% at 62, three highest year average plan.
  • Health Insurance - Monthly contribution of $715.00 (Employee Only), $1,377.00 (Employee plus one), or $1,841.00 (Employee plus Family) for health, dental and vision premiums. Eligible employees who waive all medical, dental, vision, supplemental life, and supplemental AD&D benefits will receive an annual "Health Insurance Waiver Stipend" of $3,500.00 every first paycheck of December.
  • Leave - Vacation beginning at 80 hours after one year, 96 hours of sick leave annually, 13 holidays, plus 18 hours of floating holiday time.
  • Life & Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance - The City provides Term Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance.

Retirement for New Members - For employees hired 1/1/2013 or later and who are not a member of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) or a reciprocal agency as of 12/31/12, or those who have been separated from a public agency which contracts with CalPERS or a reciprocal agency for six months or more, the retirement benefit shall be 2% @ 62; 3 year final compensation. New members will be obligated to pay 50% of the "normal cost" of their retirement benefits as required by State law.
