Department SummaryThe Community Programs department offers a comprehensive suite of integrated services aimed at eliminating barriers to attain and sustain equitable health, social, educational, housing, and economic outcomes. We serve youth, adults, and seniors through services that include: 1) school-based achievement and mentoring in middle and high schools and youth workforce development; 2) food security, housing access, and financial capability; and 3) services dedicated to enhancing the well-being of low-income residents and seniors. We deliver culturally rooted, multi-lingual services, providing vital support to residents in Oakland and throughout Alameda County.
Position SummaryThe Resident Services Coordinator at Casa Sueños, reporting to the Resident Services Manager, is responsible for providing individual assistance, evaluating resident needs, facilitating service linkages, and coordinating activities aimed at bolstering community engagement, building relationships, increasing service utilization, and promoting health and social outcomes. The successful candidate will be pivotal in assisting residents in maintaining stable housing and improving their overall quality of life. Casa Sueños is the third stage of the award-winning mixed-income, mixed-use, transit-oriented development of the Fruitvale Transit Village by The Unity Council. In partnership with BRIDGE Housing, this site consists of 181 units of affordable housing. This property is located in Oakland’s Fruitvale neighborhood, only steps away from the Fruitvale BART station, and AC Transit’s Tempo line. One successful candidate will be selected, either as a Level I or Level II based on experience and skillset. Responsibilities- Provide individual assistance to residents, conduct needs assessments, make referrals and ensure follow-up to promote residents’ financial and housing stability, service utilization, and maintain quality of life.
- Cultivate an inclusive and welcoming environment by organizing and hosting year-round activities and events that foster community-building and address residents’ needs.
- Facilitate referrals to an array of social services, including support for housing stability, employment, transportation, financial assistance, food security, health screenings, and other essential services as required.
- Actively promote available services and programs through continuous resident outreach efforts, which may include door-knocking, one-on-one meetings, distributing flyers, and making phone calls.
- Facilitate workshops, orientations, and presentations that actively engage residents.
- Identify residents’ financial assistance and employment-related needs, provide light coaching and assistance with job applications, and facilitate connections with the appropriate financial and career services staff at The Unity Council and external partners.
- Engage in collaborative efforts with Property Management staff to address property needs effectively and resolve resident issues in a timely manner.
- Collect required data for all programming offered, accurately record data in the database (Salesforce) and submit reports in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with other service providers and City agencies and maintain a community resource directory.
- Attend all team meetings, training and required supervision.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned.
- Minimum two years of experience providing social services to low-income families or individuals as a case manager, service navigator or counselor. For Level II, a minimum of 5 years of experience, with 2 of those years as a service provider in the affordable housing field.
- Experience in or knowledge of Fair Housing is a plus.
- Knowledge of various systems and providers in Alameda County is strongly preferred, particularly in areas related to housing stability, income, and health and social assistance programs.
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills essential for effective and respectful engagement with a diverse population, encompassing various cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds, as well as individuals with disabilities.
- Maintain reliable attendance, demonstrate dependability, resourcefulness, and a commitment to follow through with resident requests.
- Motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision, while also thriving in a collaborative team setting.
- Fluency in Spanish or another threshold language spoken in Oakland is preferred.
- For Level II, demonstrate excellent track record of exceeding expectations in current or prior employment, strong professional judgement, and achieving outcomes.
- Intermediate computer skills with experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Regularly required to operate standard office equipment (personal computer, photocopier, fax, etc.)
- Regularly required to sit for long periods of time, and occasionally stand and walk
- Regularly required to use hands to operate computer and other office equipment
- Must be able climb stairs, reach, bend, lift 15-20 pounds, crawl, kneel, stoop, and twist
