Job description

Purpose of Position: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for establishing, coordinating and facilitating offsite outreach programs and events to promote animal adoption. This position interacts continuously with the community to develop and maintain positive relationships that support the mission of Animal Friends Humane Society. The Outreach Coordinator manages a robust volunteer program to assist with all services and functions of the organization.


The position is hourly, non-exempt, 40 hours a week, Tuesdays through Saturdays, with occasional Sundays and weeknights when events fall on those days and times.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Manages all aspects of the volunteer program including recruiting, orienting and database management. Communicates regularly with volunteers to update them on program and service needs of the organization.

  • Recruits and assigns volunteers to support onsite activities, offsite programs and events.

  • Manages Pet Mobile program including scheduling for events, maintaining and cleaning the vehicle.

  • Develops and promotes the Humane Education Program to area schools and groups.

  • Assists with fundraising events including planning, coordinating and execution.

  • Serves as point person for selected events such as the Bissell adoption event.

  • Manages the Carole’s Canine Companions pet therapy program. Establishes and maintains relationships with area facilities and trains volunteers to provide canine visits.

  • Establishes and maintains community relationships, including off-site adoption partners. Schedules and conducts facility tours. Distributes informational brochures to area residents.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • High school graduate or GED equivalent, some college preferred
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in an office setting
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Excellent verbal, written, problem solving, decision making and organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in a humane society, dog warden office or similar facility preferred
  • Computer literate in a Windows-based environment and proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds with reasonable accommodation
  • Comfortable driving large vehicles such as a small recreational vehicle.

  • Possible exposure to dangerous, diseased, frightened and injured animals.
  • Exposure to high noise levels and odors
  • Exposure to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Exposure to Zoonotic disease
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions
  • Emotional demands include euthanasia, animal abuse and animal neglect
  • Work includes a mixture of indoor office work and outdoor work.

Physical Requirements:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. There are close vision requirements and the employee must have the ability to adjust focus. These physical demands are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
