Grade: B-14; Starting Salary: $68,940
This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Coordinates and performs a wide variety of COMMUNITY OUTREACH and educational activities that promote recycling, composting, and waste reduction throughout the city.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Coordinate, lead, and participate in COMMUNITY OUTREACH and education activities that promote the Department's recycling, composting, and waste reduction programs and initiatives throughout the City.
• Activities will include, but are not limited to, regularly giving presentations and tabling at community meetings/events and city-sponsored events occurring on weekends and evenings.
• Develop and deliver effective presentations and outreach materials to communicate with diverse audiences.
• Track and report on the results of COMMUNITY OUTREACH and education efforts. Keep accurate and updated records of progress.
• Collaborate with community partner organizations and community groups to ensure all are informed about City's recycling, composting, and waste reduction initiatives and programs, including the Blue Cart recycling program.
• Assist in the stewardship of the Recycling Block Captain community volunteer program.
• Provide customer service support, including answering phone calls and emails from residents.
• Collaborate with Department staff to develop effective marketing strategies for waste related programs.
• Develop social media and website content
• Act as a liaison between the Department and community-based organizations (such as neighborhood groups, churches, K-12 schools)
• Stay current on recycling, composting, and waste reduction initiatives, locally, statewide, and nationally.
• Stay current on effective COMMUNITY OUTREACH and education strategies and best practices.

Additional duties may be required for this position
Location: 333 S. State Street
Days: Monday - Friday
Hours: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm (days and hours will vary to accommodate attendance at evening
and weekend events)

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in the Social Sciences or a related field plus three (3) years of community or social services experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications
A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required. Must have the permanent use of an automobile that is properly insured, including a clause specifically insuring the City of Chicago from accident liability

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
• Previous experience in solid waste, composting or recycling field or industry
• Previous experience working in a community organization
• Previous experience in public outreach
• Proficiency experience in marketing or advertising
• Proficiency experience in social media
• Proficiency experience in public speaking
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint
