Position Summary
The Community Outreach and Relations Coordinator position is directly responsible for planning and helping of targeted strategies and recruitment initiatives with the local community, especially in the Latinx Community. The Community Outreach and Relations Coordinator will create support strategies, partnership opportunities and community events that will attract local community members to connect with the University of St. Francis consisting of, but not limited to, building relationships with high school counselors and community college counselors and appropriate academic and non-academic departments. This position will also report to the Director of Community & Employee Relations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Create a community relations plan to reach Latinx residents of nearby communities
- Generate Outreach and awareness campaigns within the Will County Latinx community
- Build partnerships with Will County schools, businesses, and community organizations that support USF's culturally affirming campus community.
- Create relationships that increase visibility for higher educational pathways to low-income students including engaging Latinx Alumni.
- Support Outreach and engagement, including through programming aimed at Latinx families.
- Hold at least four bilingual family outreach events each year, including informational "College Ready" and financial aid sessions (in partnership with staff from the Financial Aid and Admissions Office).
- Serve as the designated point person for Spanish-speaking parents who need assistance navigating USF systems once students are enrolled.
- Serve as a centralized hub to support outreach events (i.e. Leach College of Nursing, Digital Audio Recording Arts).
- Develop social media content, materials for press releases, and other public relations materials to highlight key campus and community events
- Participate on civic or community boards
- Participate in and promote a culture of continuing quality improvement
- Create a Welcoming Community and engage in university mission
- Other related duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required
- Strong organizational, written communication, and interpersonal skills
- Experience serving the needs of diverse populations
- Ability to interact and work professionally with parents, students, alumni, high school staff, community college faculty and counselors, university staff and other affiliates
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously while meeting aggressive deadlines.
- Proven ability to speak in front of small and large groups
- Bilingual Spanish speaking,
- Strong professional presence,
- Advanced knowledge of social media
- Working knowledge of personal computer applications (Microsoft Office, email)
- Valid driver's license. (Must have own car - mileage is reimbursed for university activities)
- Must have web-enabled phone package (monthly stipend to offset service costs)
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position - carrying informational materials, walking distances, extended time standing
- Willingness to support the Catholic and Franciscan values of the University
Preferred Requirements
- Master's Degree preferred
- Experience with grants in higher education
- Knowledge of higher education, academic programs, financial aid, and admission practices
Hours/Shift/Work Schedule
Full-time; Temporary position from October 2023 to September 2028. Position duties and responsibilities require adherence to a flexible schedule to accommodate students' schedules. This position is full-time, grant funded. Monday through Friday; regular limited evening and some weekends required.
Physical Requirements of Position
Individual must be able to travel and provide an automobile to accomplish work. Must be flexible with hours knowing certain times of the year require longer working days and weeks because of the volume of activity. Must hold valid driver's license and auto insurance. Beside travel, work requires ability to walk around campus with prospective students, to sit at a desk and operate a computer and phone in order to speak with prospective students.
