The Community Service Officer assigned to Community Engagement is responsible for the organization and direction of our volunteer staff. They are the liaison for the police department to Neighborhood Watch and other community groups.
The Community Engagement Community Service Officer is very active in assisting with city sponsored events and the organization and planning of Medford Police Department outreach events. This position is highly visible within the community, participating in public speaking for various community partners and educating the public on police related issues.
The Community Engagement Community Service Officer is responsible for fielding complaints and facilitating problem-solving techniques on safety and livability related issues.
A qualified applicant is one who:
- Is a high school graduate or has a GED equivalent.
- Is 18 years of age by date of hire with no felony convictions.
- Has a valid driver's license by date of hire.
- Successfully passes a comprehensive background investigation.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in public speaking and presenting.
- Knowledge of the concepts and principles of Law Enforcement and the Criminal Justice System.
Additional eligibility requirements:
- Ability to understand, interpret, and apply departmental policy and applicable state or municipal law.
- Use of computer and other office equipment effectively and efficiently.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Available schedules:
- Monday - Friday, 8 hours/day; or
- 4 - 10 hour/days
Potential Pay Differentials:
- English/Spanish bilingual proficiency 4.5%
- College credits up to 10% for a bachelor’s degree
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $26.25 (first step) to $27.56 or $28.93 (second or third step). Directly related experience and qualifications will be evaluated alongside others who perform work of comparable character as required by Pay Equity Law. Six steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.
