REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, or related field OR Bachelor’s degree in the Biosciences or related field with demonstrated communications experience
Training or experience specific to science communication
Experience executing diverse communication and marketing strategies such as events, awareness campaigns, etc.
Experience with developing and managing content for social media and websites, preferably Wordpress
Experience with graphic software (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
Experience with video editing
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The National Institute of Antimicrobial Resistance Research and Education (NIAMRRE) hosted by Iowa State University is currently accepting applications for a Part-Time Communications Specialist II. NIAMRRE (niamrre.org) is a member organization that drives cross-sector engagement and coordinated action to combat the global threat of Antimicrobial Resistance across humans, animals, and the environment. In short, we connect people, resources, and ideas to accelerate and synergize efforts to combat antibiotic resistance.
The Communications Specialist plays a key role in disseminating information related to scientific discovery, institutional excellence, and public outreach. This position will take the lead in the execution of a comprehensive communications strategy for the institute, working collaboratively with the NIAMRRE team and our members to identify priority themes, messaging, and tactics for reaching NIAMRRE stakeholders. Additionally, the Communications Specialist supports the team by promoting NIAMRRE programming and member recruitment. This position will engage with diverse groups of NIAMRRE stakeholders and build relationships on behalf of the institute.
Specific responsibilities include developing external communication materials (e.g., press releases, magazine articles, e-newsletter, occasional blogs), creating visual and written promotional collateral (e.g., flyers, brochures, PowerPoint slide decks), managing the institute’s web and social media content, video editing, and representing the organization as the first point of contact by answering the main phone and general inquiry emails.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter that possesses a passion for science communication, particularly in the biosciences; have excellent written, oral and visual communication skills; have the desire to learn, grow, and innovate on a small team; and have the ability to work well with diverse groups of individuals.
This will be a 20 hour/week position.
This will be a regular with term appointment position(fixed term) with an end date of 8/31/2024, with the opportunity for renewal.
