Department CENTER FOR RURAL ENGAGEMENT (BL-CFRE-IUBLA) Department Information The Center for Rural Engagement (CRE) at Indiana University Bloomington brings together people, research, cultural assets, and expertise to improve quality of life and address challenges in areas such as Arts and culture, Business and innovation, Community resilience, Education, Health, Housing, and Leadership development. Job Summary This position is responsible for reviewing what is working and what need improvement, paying attention to detail to where client audiences are spending most of their time, then finding ways to engage these audiences through a variety of social media platforms.
Department-Specific Responsibilities Utilizes various social media tools and collaborates with the Associate Director on a social media strategy for the organization Supports blogs, online community development and management, web and database updates, and social media monitoring of accounts relevant to the CRE Writes content for news release, newsletters, feature articles, and social media Supports the creation of reports, presentations, and other special publications in collaboration with the Director of Strategy and Communications and the Associate Director of Communications Manages social media content and accounts for CRE, including daily monitoring of all accounts, content development, and posting Monitors trending topics on social media channels and specific situations as requested by administration Prepares status reports on social media efforts and success rates Stays current with social media platforms and user trends Curates content for and prepares and sends the weekly staff e-newsletter, the IU Rural Report, and other newsletters as needed Creates layout and design for social media assets and supports CRE design projects Captures photos and videos and edits content as needed Keeps customer relationship management system (CRM) up-to-date and maintains mailing lists Prepares newsletters for distribution using HTML e-mail creation systems such as Salesforce Helps implement the programs and initiatives identified by client units with CRE General Responsibilities Independently creates basic and complex communications for print and e-distribution on behalf of department or functional area within department and in support of departmental goals and objectives; communications may be interdepartmental; staff, faculty, or student-focused; or external Responds to inquiries and requests and explains policies, procedures, and context of communications Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders and creates communications coverage for relevant initiatives, events, and programs Prepares communications timelines and shares progress of communications toward relevant deadlines with manager, team members, and other relevant constituents Monitors relevant social media and news sites regularly; researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty Utilizes various communications software programs and delivers communications in multiple formats to a variety of audiences May provide guidance to lower-level Communications Generalists Qualifications Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
