PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB
The Communications Manager is an exempt position responsible for developing and implementing a communications strategy that broadens the impact and reach of Galesburg Community Foundation (GCF). The Communications Manager is responsible for overseeing all internal and external communications functions for the Community Foundation while also strengthening relationships with donors, grantees, and community partners. This position supports the Community Foundation’s regional role as a thought leader and trusted philanthropic partner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Establish GCF’s creative direction relative to its brand for consistent identity and promotion across the organization and region.
- Oversee all internal and external communications.
- Produce compelling content (copy, photography, videography) for a variety of platforms; including website, electronic and print newsletters, press releases, brochures, and other marketing materials to develop and strengthen relationships with donors, grantees, and community partners.
- Oversee development and management of social media content and strategy, including posting, enhancing, and developing appropriate social media platforms and digital advertising.
- Provide design support for GCF’s print and online communications.
- Lead development and implementation, in cooperation with leadership and other staff, of an annual Communications plan utilizing a variety of mediums that supports all aspects of the Foundation’s work, including grantmaking, community leadership initiatives, and resource development and stewardship.
- Develop key performance indicators to measure plan effectiveness.
- Work with external consultants as needed.
- Serve as the central point of contact for all press inquiries.
- With guidance from Director of Development, determine and allocate communications budget, including sponsorships, printing, photography, and advertising.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, photo and video editing software, website content management system, and digital advertising.
- Experience with photo and video editing, graphic design, and email software.
- Strong verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly.
- Ability to build strong partnerships and work collaboratively with others.
- Good sense of self with demonstrated qualities of integrity, loyalty, discretion, and self-motivation.
- Understanding of community issues.
- Commitment to maintain discretion in dealing with confidential information.
- Enthusiastic and innovative mindset to be able to respond effectively to evolving project needs.
- Strong organizational skills and excellent time management skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects/tasks.
- Good understanding of nonprofit management procedures.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred or the equivalent in relevant experience. Course work specific to communications, public relations, marketing or journalism is preferred.
- Proven experience working in a team environment.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.

Compensation
This position is administrative, full-time, and will be eligible to participate in the Community Foundation’s employee health and benefits plan. Compensation will be commensurate with skill level and experience.
