JOB SUMMARY
The role of the Atlanta Police Foundation (APF) Communications Intern provides an opportunity to gain experience and knowledge in content creation, media relations, public relations, social media management, and media analytics and reporting.
You will be a vital part of the APF communications team, assisting in various tasks and projects aimed at enhancing the organization's public image and effectively conveying its messages to target audiences.
You will work closely with the VP of Communications & Public Affairs and play a pivotal role in telling the story and safeguarding the brand. Since APF is responsible for bringing together private sector leaders from the business and philanthropic communities to support public safety initiatives, this internship offers unparalleled networking opportunities with stakeholders at a wide and high-level scale.
This is a graduate-level internship. The member in this role must be a multidimensional storyteller who takes initiative, thinks creatively, and can turn data into compelling creative content that communicates with stakeholders. In addition, this role requires self-discipline, time management skills, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills. The intern in this role must be willing to learn and take ownership of their responsibilities. Proficiency in videography, photography, and writing is essential. While you may excel more in one area than the others, having a basic understanding and eagerness to learn how to convey narratives through various mediums is crucial.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create engaging and compelling content for various communication channels, including press releases, social media, email marketing campaigns, and website content.
- Conduct research and gather information to support content development.
- Proofread and edit written materials to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to the organization's style guidelines.
- Assist in building and maintaining media lists and contact databases.
- Monitor media coverage and compile press clippings or media reports related to the organization.
- Draft media pitches and press releases for distribution to journalists and media outlets.
- Assist in managing and updating the organization's social media accounts.
- Create and schedule posts, respond to comments and messages, and engage with followers.
- Monitor social media trends and provide insights to improve content and engagement strategies.
- Assist in the planning and execution of public relations campaigns and events.
- Prepare media kits, press materials, and other relevant documents for PR initiatives.
- Help coordinate interviews, photo sessions, and other media-related activities.
- Support internal communication efforts, including drafting internal announcements, newsletters, and updates for employees.
- Assist in maintaining the organization's intranet or internal communication platforms.
- Monitor and analyze key performance metrics for communication efforts.
- Create regular reports to evaluate the impact of various communication strategies and suggest improvements.
- Provide general administrative support, such as scheduling meetings, managing email communications, and maintaining communication resources and files.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Strong content creation skills (videography, photography, graphic design, etc)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and creative design tools
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
