Job description
Hunger Free America is seeking a temporary, full-time Communications Associateto work remotely to support the USDA National Hunger Clearinghouse. This is a temporary, 3-month role. This program includes a toll-free hotline connecting families and individuals all over the country with nonprofit and government nutrition assistance programs such as food pantries, SNAP, WIC, and various other services that promote self-sufficiency. The hotline can be reached at 1-866-3-HUNGRY (English) or 1-877-8-HAMBRE (Spanish) from Monday through Friday (7 a.m. to 10 p.m. EST).
**This position must be filled by a qualified Dislocated Worker. Candidates must pass a brief Dislocated Worker screening to be eligible for the position. **
Job Responsibilities
- Manage Clearinghouse social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram) to create, publish, and maintain content related to nutrition programs
- Write and publish monthly newsletter highlighting national nutrition program updates, employment training and application opportunities, Clearinghouse outreach activities, etc.
- Update text service automations, create/update templates, and monitor inbox to ensure all users receive response.
- Update NHC webpage on HFA website.
- Submit monthly report outlining promotion metrics.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Benefits Access) at HFA to support outreach efforts Create outreach materials promoting nutrition program access.
- Occasionally write press releases and memos for USDA upon request.
- Support team members and volunteers as-needed.
- Respond to calls on the National Hunger Hotline during Hotline shifts, as needed.
- Current need: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Subject to change.
- Hotline shifts are 8 hours long (with 1 hour break) occurring between 7AM - 10PM EST, Monday - Friday.
- Some flexibility on schedule possible for non-Hotline days.
- Must be available for rotating Friday Hotline shifts at least once a month.
- Closing Friday shifts rotate among all team members.
- Submit biweekly reports and complete other projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Prior experience in a relevant field (e.g., communications, nonprofit, public health, public policy, social work)
- Familiarity with nutrition assistance programs (e.g., SNAP, WIC) and other government assistance programs (e.g., child tax credit) preferred.
- Strong computer and technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
- Strong graphic design skills (experience with Canva or other design software).
- Experience with content creation and social media engagement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities: detail-oriented, deadline-driven, self-motivated, proactive, collaborative, reliable, and flexible.
- Fluency in Spanish (may not be required for exceptional candidate).

Salary and Benefits
- This is a full-time, remote, 3- month, 35-hour per-week position with pay of $25 per hour.
