Diamond Baseball Holdings (DBH) is seeking a communications superstar to join our corporate team. You will be contributing to the development and execution of a first-class communications function on behalf of DBH as well as the MLB-affiliated Clubs within our roster across North America. Our ideal candidate has a positive attitude, a self-starter mentality, a desire to learn, a love of writing and a passion for sports, specifically Minor League Baseball!
You will be working directly with the Director of Corporate Communications, based in Charlotte, NC. The position is remote, however a home base in Charlotte or NYC is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, strengthen and sustain the reputation of DBH and its current and growing roster of clubs through internal and external communications
- Contribute to the execution of strategic PR/ communications plans in support of DBH announcements, including portfolio growth, partnerships, personnel appointments and promotions and cultural initiatives
- Build and maintain relationships with PR leads at every DBH club to provide communications support as needed
- Identify and build meaningful relationships with target industry and trade media to manage reactive and proactive coverage opportunities; conduct proactive media outreach, respond to media inquiries and staff interviews, as needed
- Coordinate and occasionally staff onsite national media visits to DBH clubs
- Monitor for DBH and Club news, share coverage flags in real-time and set up/ manage weekly coverage reports for both DBH and our Clubs; create stand-alone coverage recap reports for key initiatives
- Maintain and co-manage internal communications calendar inclusive of DBH announcements, company newsletters and other company information
- Contribute to the development of media materials, including press releases, messaging, prep documents, memos, as well as internal documents in support of DBH events
- Build a proactive portfolio pitch calendar to elevate Club news on a national stage, and support clubs with national outreach when warranted
- Contribute to the execution of executive/ thought leadership strategy, including submissions to awards, panels, speaking opportunities, bylines and more
- Assist with the development and execution of an earned influencer strategy and playbook to support local Clubs
- Regularly provide proactive communications ideas across earned, shared, owned and internal channels, to develop a best-in-class Communications function within DBH and across our Clubs that supports our overall mission and vision, now and in the future
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years relevant experience in public relations and communications, whether at an agency or in-house, preferably with some experience executing Corporate Communications
- An understanding of the sports media landscape and success pitching and placing stories with national media; existing media relationships within sports and sports marketing outlets a plus
- Proficiency using tools to build media lists and coverage reports, such as Cision, Critical Mention, Muckrack, Meltwater or similar
- Previous experience coordinating and staffing executive interviews, including in person, over the phone, and on live TV
- Excellent writing skills
- Bachelor's degree in public relations, Journalism, Communications or similar field preferred but not required
- Experience with any of the following is a plus:
- Crisis communications
- Public/ government affairs
- Influencer marketing
- Social media copywriting and channel management
