Job Description
MSA Hospice, a proud member of the Medical Services of America, Inc. family, currently seeks an experienced Full-Time Hospice Volunteer Coordinator for our Hospice patients in Roxboro, Raleigh (Wake), NC.
- Plans and supervises the delivery of all volunteer services through joint patient home visits and in non-patient care settings
- Recruits, interviews and assigns volunteers to work in administrative or patient care roles on the basis of program needs and volunteer’s interest and skill level
- Maintains a record of activities of volunteer recruitment
- Assesses and monitors program needs and develops appropriate volunteer activities and positions.
- Ensures that direct patient care volunteers document services to hospice patients and families accurately in the medical record within 24 hours
- Maintains and monitors a record-keeping system for all volunteers to include services rendered, hours served, and cost savings
- Ensures a minimum of 5% of the total number of patient hours is provided by volunteers and administrative and/or direct patient care roles.
- Provides an annual report of hours contributed by volunteers and the demonstrated cost savings to the board of directors.
- Monitors and evaluates volunteer performance.
- Designs, plans and implements volunteer orientation and on-going training as it relates to hospice philosophy, polices, and practices.
- Develops, revises and maintains volunteer program policies and procedures.
- Plans, conducts and attends volunteer support group meetings.
- Works with volunteer in developing the patient plan of care.
- Attends and participates in IDG meetings, and attends other staff meetings as appropriate.
- Maintains a regular flow of correspondence, notices, and verbal contact with all volunteers
- Plans, documents and conducts special activities for recognition and retention of volunteer staff.
- Attends outside hospice organization meetings and events.
- Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, company policies/procedures and process maps in the performance of job responsibilities
- Participates in QAPI program as needed.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Personal care services - reading and recording temperature, pulse and respiration, maintaining a clean and safe environment, assisting with bodily and oral hygiene, etc.
- Applies safety principles and proper body mechanics when dealing with mobility of client.
- Prepares and provides adequate nutrition and fluid intake.
- Observes, reports and documents changes in client status. Understands basic elements of body functioning and reports changes in client body functions as indicated.
- Able to recognize emergency situations and implement appropriate emergency procedures when indicated.
Job Requirements
- Successful completion of a accredited/certified registered nursing program.
- Minimum of one year experience in direct patient care.
- Hospice nursing experience strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's preferred
- Three to five years’ experience desired, particularly in recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, sensitively, and compassionately.
- Valid driver’s license
