Role Overview
Join us as the Client Services Section Manager (WMS2) within the Office of Nutrition Services (ONS). This role is crucial in enhancing the health of communities through our nutritional services and support programs.
Responsibilities Highlights:
  • Oversee the Client Services Section, managing a team dedicated to delivering high-quality WIC program services.
  • Ensure that local WIC operations comply with federal and state regulations through effective policy development, training, and technical assistance.
  • Lead initiatives to apply best practices in health education, nutrition, and breast/chest/body feeding.
  • Maintain robust communication with local agencies providing WIC services.
  • Analyze trends to guide local agency caseloads and funding allocations.
  • Coordinate WIC outreach efforts.
  • Oversee compliance with WIC food and formula standards.
  • Collaborate to enhance the overall effectiveness of ONS services.
  • Plan and manage a substantial annual budget, aligning resources with priorities and monitoring program effectiveness and quality.

Key Aspects:
  • Act as the federally mandated WIC Nutrition Coordinator, integrating cutting-edge nutrition science into WIC services.
  • Promote health equity through continuous process improvement and ensuring accessibility of services to all eligible participants.
  • Develop and maintain strong strategic partnerships, both internally and externally, to amplify the impact of ONS programs.
  • Ensure adherence to federal and state requirements, maintaining high standards for nutrition services in local WIC agencies.
  • Provide expert leadership to the state WIC office, and advice to the ONS Director on all aspects of ONS programs.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationship with program federal funder.

About Prevention & Community Health Division and Office of Nutritional Services
The Office of Nutrition Services (ONS) is one of four offices within the Division of Prevention and Community Health. The mission of PCH is to enhance the health of communities through culturally sensitive programs that promote healthy starts, healthy choices, and access to services.
ONS provides nutritional services and support for healthy living to qualified participants statewide, mainly by supporting and contracting with local agencies for direct services. ONS has six major programs: The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC); WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counseling (BFPC); WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP); Senior Famers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP), and to programs related to SNAP-Education for participants in or eligible for the SNAP program: statewide evaluation; and policy, systems, and environment work.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications
Required:
  • Educational Requirements: A master's degree or higher in Nutrition (mandated by federal regulations).
  • Professional Registration: Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (in compliance with federal guidelines).

Ideal Candidate Experience:
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in nutrition.
  • Demonstrated experience addressing health disparities and working with historically marginalized groups, demonstrating cultural sensitivity.
  • Expertise in research, data analysis, and interpretation.
  • Management experience with a proven track record of effective project management and planning.
  • Accurate and timely budget planning, budget modeling, and monitoring.

Ideal Candidate Skills and Abilities:
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of articulating ideas clearly to diverse audiences, including peers, direct reports, supervisors, and external parties.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in team settings, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Experience in leading workgroups and supervising, coaching, and mentoring staff.
  • A deep commitment to public health principles and the objectives of our agency.
  • Proficiency in managing time effectively, making appropriate commitments, and following through reliably.

Desired Education & Experience (a plus if you have any of the following):
  • Five (5) or more years of state or local WIC program experience.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience as a local WIC nutritionist or coordinator.
  • Experience implementing process improvement.
  • Knowledge of effective meeting management, including feedback, active listening, and decision making.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience managing multi-disciplinary work efforts and complex programs and budgets.

Insurance Benefits
