CITY ADMINISTRATOR
The City Administrator shall serve as the city’s Chief Administrative officer and shall be directly responsible to the mayor. The administrator shall advise the mayor on policy matters, shall implement policy as determined by the mayor, and shall manage city operations by directing and coordinating activities consistent with established goals, objectives, and policies.
As City Administrator, they are responsible for planning, organizing and managing operations, leading department heads and employees to achieve objectives established by the mayor. The administrator is expected to monitor and evaluate the city’s organization structure and performance to identify challenges and opportunities for the continuous improvement of city services.
Supervises
All Department Heads report to the City Administrator who is responsible for the supervision of all employees of the city through the respective Department Heads.
Departments include Assessor, City Chamberlain, Corporation Counsel, Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Public Works, Police and Poughkeepsie Joint Water.
Essential Job Functions
1.Serve as chief administrative officer for the city, directing all the departments and managing the daily operations of the municipality.
2. Supervises, manages, and coordinates the activities and functions of all city departments in implementing the requirements of ordinances, resolutions and polices.
3. Regularly reports to the mayor concerning the status of all assignments, duties, projects, and functions of all city departments.
4. Assists the mayor, in cooperation with city department heads, in the preparation of the annual budget and capital projects program for Common Council consideration.
5. Prepare and submit fiscal and other reports to the mayor as required by the charter and by the mayor.
6. Provide oversight and direction to department heads to identify sources of grant funding.
7. Develop policy and procedures necessary for the operation of the City.
8. Responsible for labor management matters, including negotiations, hiring, terminations and disciplinary proceedings.
9. Attends all city Common Council meetings and addresses matters presented by the Common Council and the public.
10. Serves as the liaison between Common Council members and department heads.
11. Reviews and resolves all inquiries and requests from citizens in conjunction with the appropriate Department Head. Responds timely to complaints to maintain positive community relations for the city.
12. Represents the City, as directed by the mayor, on various committees involving other public entities or private organizations;

14. The City Administrator shall perform all other duties and assignments as directed by the mayor.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $175,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
