ABOUT THE TOWNSHIP AND DEPARTMENT
Olmsted Township is one of two townships in Cuyahoga County. Situated in the southwest end of the county, Olmsted Township is a growing west side suburb of Cleveland, and a part of the Greater Cleveland area. The Township's population currently stands at approximately 16,000 residents, served by the Fire Department. The department comprises 17 full-time members and approximately 8 part-time members, offering fire prevention, suppression, and medical emergency response services within the Township. Additionally, it extends mutual-aid support to neighboring communities.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Under the administrative direction of the Board of Township Trustees and the Township Administrator, the Fire Chief oversees and manages the operations of the Township Fire Department. Olmsted Township seeks a candidate with robust management skills and executive-level leadership qualities. Responsibilities include, among others:
· Planning, directing, and supervising the Township’s Fire Department operations;
· Setting departmental policy for fire prevention and fire suppression;
· Developing, and managing long and short-term goals for Department;
· Responding to and assuming command of Fire scenes and emergency response situations;
· Developing, planning and administering the Department budget;
· Conducting studies, surveys and other research projects;
· Revising Departmental policies to improve operations;
· Submitting reports and recommendations to Trustees and Township Administrator;
· Researching and planning with Fiscal Office large capital equipment purchases;
· Directing and supervising daily activities of all subordinate division personnel;
· Training and developing personnel;
· Public relations for Department on behalf of the Township;
· Etc.
QUALIFICATIONS: (example of acceptable qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree from accredited four (4) year college/university in Fire Science, Public Administration, Management or related field , with ten (10) years of progressively responsible command and supervisory experience in a full-time fire department , with majority of the time served as a Fire Lieutenant or higher-level position or any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Candidate must possess at a minimum High School Diploma or GED with an Associate’s degree in Public Administration, Fire Science or accredited, credentialed, equivalent in related field if they do not have an appropriate Bachelor’s degree.
Candidate Must pass background check.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must possess NFPA 1021 Ohio Fire Officer II certification or equivalent as well as State of Ohio Fire Instructor certification or successful completion of NFPA 1041 compliant Fire Instructor II course. Must be NIMS Certified 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800. EMT-Paramedic Licensure preferred. Must possess a valid state of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license and maintain insurability under the Township’s vehicle insurance policy.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary range for this position is contingent upon the candidate’s experience, qualifications, knowledge, and ability. The Township’s benefits package includes health insurance and dental/vision insurance, as well as paid time off (e.g. vacation, holiday pay, paid sick leave).
