Essential Functions

Responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of assigned functional area(s) within the Department. These areas may include, but are not limited to, Administration, Shift Operations, Special Operations, Communications and Planning, Logistics, EMS or Professional Standards and Training.
Manage staffing and operations of assigned area. Direct and supervise duties of subordinate staff.
Work with management to coordinate and set daily priorities based on administrative and operational needs.
Work with management to set short and long term organizational goals and objectives.
Participate in the budget process and assist with control of Fire Department expenditures.
Administer and evaluate effectiveness of Departmental training, safety and incident programs.
Respond to fire, rescue, and emergency medical alarms, and may direct the activities at scenes of structural and other major fire-related emergencies, medical emergencies, serious trauma situations, disasters, and rescue related emergencies. Coordinates emergency activities with other agencies in first response or mutual aid situations.
Available to respond 24/7, on or off duty, for major incidents to support command and/or provide countywide coverage.
Required to serve, as assigned, in disaster situations for the duration of the event/incident.
Initiate and effectively recommend to the Fire Chief, for final approval, hiring, termination, performance evaluation, disciplinary and commendatory actions for assigned personnel.
Perform a variety of statistical analyses and make recommendations for improved performance and efficiencies. Provide expertise in the development of departmental policies and procedures in assigned areas of responsibility.
Additional Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned or as may be necessary, including but not limited to, reassignment or rotation of shifts or responsibilities.
In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's Degree in Fire Science and ten (10) years’ experience in fire suppression and rescue operations, three (3) years of which must have been in a responsible supervisory capacity in the rank of Battalion Chief.
Must possess a Certificate of Compliance from an approved State of Florida Minimum Standards Fire Fighting Course.
Must have completed an Emergency Medical Technician I Certificate Program.
Preference will be given to those who have a Paramedic Certification; Bachelor's Degree; and/or Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) Chief Fire Officer Credential
A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Additional Requirements
Thorough knowledge and skill in the application of the principles and practices of rescue, emergency medical services and firefighting, including equipment, apparatus, and personnel utilization. Considerable knowledge of the geography of Seminole County, including principal and potential fire hazards.
Considerable ability to plan, evaluate, assign, and coordinate activities performed by the Fire Department personnel. Ability to effectively command in an emergency situation. Ability to effectively manage assigned personnel and resources. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Must meet all Florida State Firefighter Standards Council Rules and regulations for command chief officers.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class “E” Driver’s License.
