S ummary
The Chief Fire Marshal has a high level of authority for the decision-making, staffing, and budget for their functional area of responsibility, subject to approval regarding the most significant business and policy issues by senior management. Works within clearly defined policies, principles, and specific objectives in consultation with departmental management. Provides policy and procedural recommendations with final approval from senior management.
Responsibilities
Understands and provides leadership for all aspects of fire prevention, the responsibilities of MTA C&D as a regulator, and integrating such into the project lifecycle.
Recommends and approves staffing and consulting needs.
Oversees effective organization to efficiently provide fire and life safety activity statu s through metric-based deliverables.
Prioritizes business needs across multiple business units within MTA C&D.
Approves process changes based on different project delivery methods.
Supports the Deputy Vice President in all fire and life safety-related issues, including interagency, technical, codes/standards development, research, and process improvement.
Serves as the technical skills expert on fire and life safety issues.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Fire Science/Safety, or a related field.
Must have a minimum of sixteen( 16) years of related experience .
Must have a minimum of including at least ten(10) years in a managerial or supervisory role and/or project manager role in a large, multi-faceted organization.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Competencies:
Licensed Professional Engineer, Registered Architect, NFPA CFPS, or ICC Certified Fire Marshal required.
Fire Investigator Certification is desirable.
Significant experience in project management/commissioning for major construction projects with highly complex systems preferred.
Must be a Certified Code Enforcement Official within 18 months of hire.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with various stakeholders at all organizational levels to drive outcomes.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in a high - profile, high - pressure environment effectively.
Must have focus and ability to deliver on results, organizational effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
Must be a proven leader as a change agent and creative/innovative thinker with the ability to align business goals with solutions to drive process improvements.
Must possess excellent team - building , listening, problem - solving, and prioritization skills.

Pursuant to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the "Commission").
