Are you a seasoned financial expert with a passion for making an impact? The Michigan State Bar Foundation is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to oversee its fiscal operations. As the CFO, you'll lead critical areas such as finance, budgeting, and investment oversight, while ensuring corporate and grantee fiscal compliance. Responsibilities include:
- Managing financial systems, including record-keeping, reporting, investments, and accounts payable/receivable.
- Providing primary support for the Board Finance and Audit Committee.
- Coordinating all activities related to the preparation and management of the annual budget.
- Managing the Foundation's contributions system and ensuring relevant receipts/donor records, reporting, and fund distribution.
- Assisting in investment guideline development and managing the process for periodic review of investment performance.
- Maintaining cash flow analysis and preparing monthly financial summaries and statements.
- Preparing financial and investment reports for quarterly Board meetings.
- Preparing for annual audits and working with auditors to complete audits and prepare required tax returns/forms.
- Ensuring timely and accurate grant payments, proper application, and accurate grant accounting.
- Reviewing and analyzing grant budgets, fiscal reporting documents, and service statistics.
- Managing systems to ensure proper documentation and procedures for personnel requirements such as salary, benefits, and taxes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related financial field is required.
- Five or more years of accounting and financial experience.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Efficient in handling multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a broad group of stakeholders.
- Strong ability to problem solve and work in a timely and independent manner.
About the Organization:
The Michigan State Bar Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit membership organization established in 1947 to provide leadership and grants to improve access for all to the justice system, including support for civil legal aid to the poor, law-related education, and conflict education. The Foundation administers approximately $16 million dollars in grants per year.
Since its inception, the Foundation has made grants totaling more than $210 million. Nonprofit civil legal aid programs receive the largest share of the Foundation's grants to help assure access to justice for all. Civil legal aid assures fairness in the justice system. Legal Aid programs funded by the Foundation complete approximately 50,000 cases for low-income persons in Michigan each year. The Foundation also supports programs that improve the administration of justice by educating children and adults about their legal rights and responsibilities, the justice system, and opportunities to resolve conflicts outside the courtroom.
