OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
In 2021, Nolan Capital announced the acquisition of Coastal Farm & Ranch. In 2022, Coastal Farm & Ranch and C-A-L Ranch Stores merged to create Country Supplier. Country Supplier has 54 locations and is the leading farm and ranch retailer in the Western US. With a combination of existing strong brand recognition, product, service and commitment to local communities, in addition to opportunity for consolidation in a fragmented industry, Country Supplier is well positioned for further growth and expansion via acquisition and greenfield development.
Under the direction of Tom Yearsley, the former Chief Executive Officer of C-A-L Ranch Stores and the Chief Executive Officer of the newly combined business, the organization is seeking a new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Based in Idaho Falls, the new CFO will be a partner to the Chief Executive Officer and the senior leadership team to architect the strategic roadmap, create the infrastructure, team and talent, and develop capabilities to facilitate growth.
The ideal candidate is a senior Finance executive with retail experience at scale ($600M+). Experience with acquisition and greenfield expansion is ideal. Culturally, this new executive will be a strong team player who is not afraid to “roll up their sleeves” and who is passionate about the customer, and the communities they serve. The successful candidate will be someone who brings vision, leadership and serves as a critical member of the senior leadership team as the organization prepares to scale aggressively.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Partnership:
- Partner with the CEO to identify initiatives that drive dramatic improvement in financial performance and processes.
- Facilitate collaboration across the executive team to achieve top-line revenue and profitability targets. Create a culture of financial accountability throughout the organization.
- Oversee the implementation of financial strategies and KPIs across all corporate areas.
- Provide proactive financial analysis of financial and economic information to identify trends and indicators that increase revenue and profit growth.
- Review industry and economic trends for opportunities including the identification of acquisition and expansion prospects; oversee the acquisition process.
- Create, implement, and monitor financial strategies regarding forecasting capital, facility expansion, staffing requirements and required financial resources to support and achieve growth targets.
- Analyze corporate operations from the cost standpoint and identify opportunities for operational improvements, cost reduction, and systems implementation or enhancement.
Financial Management and Governance
- Set the strategic direction for developing short, mid and long-range financial targets.
- Monitor financial performance, provide detailed updates to key stakeholders, and implement correction actions, processes, and procedures as needed.
- Track and communicate key metrics by week and month.
- Partner with the CEO on all aspects of financial reporting and projections for the business. Assure alignment on financial strategies and accounting methodologies. Lead the communication of all financial reports.
- Oversee all financial processes to ensure accurate and compliant reporting, improve financial discipline and to develop insights about business performance.
- Manage relationships with external financial institutions, and other key partner relationships.
Leadership and Team Development
- Create a financially responsible and data-driven focused culture across the organization.
- Lead the Finance team in all aspects of strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting and month end close process.
- Embrace a leadership role business with accountability for performance and career development for team members.
Value Creation
- Provide analytical support to the value creation plan, serving as a trusted advisor and partner to the CEO, Nolan Capital, and the Board of Directors.
- Interface with the Board, in partnership with the CEO and ownership, on future company transactions and debt strategies
- Partner with the CEO and Nolan Capital on executing strategic growth initiatives.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Experience Profile:
Industry Specific experience:
- Experience as a Chief Financial Officer and/or experience leading the financial/accounting function of a multi-unit retailer at scale ($600M+).
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of inventory accounting and has experience establishing key metrics and KPIs to monitor and manage inventory levels in real-time.
Accounting/Finance Experience:
- Possesses at least 10 years of experience with managing the accounting and financial planning/analysis of an operating company.
- Demonstrates a high level of proficiency with their understanding of GAAP, budgeting and forecasting.
- Proven experience of producing and leading timely and accurate monthly financial statements and analysis.
- Centers the company around fixed KPI(s) and ensures that the reporting is timely, consistent and accurate.
- Experience managing and leading an operating company through a financial audit.
Lender experience:
- Experience working for a company with debt on the balance sheet is highly preferred.
- Strong management of lender relationships, including management and preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual covenant compliance.
Company Focused Investments:
- Demonstrates ability to analyze potential growth opportunities (e.g. opening of new stores) through ROI and cash flow analysis.
Contracts and Leases:
- Experience and ability to lead review and negotiation of contracts with third parties including vendor contracts, real estate leases, etc.
Insurance and Risk Management:
- Proven experience with insurance and risk management.
IT:
- Demonstrated proficiency with enterprise-wide system conversions is a plus.
Acquisitions:
- Experience with financial/accounting diligence of a potential acquisition is a plus.
- Experience with integration and synergy tracking/realization of an acquisition is a plus.
