Duties
  1. Management - Responsible for the accounting and finance operations of Joni and Friends and the JAFF
    1. Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives
    2. Maintains and enforces a well-documented systems of accounting policies and procedures
    3. Manages and makes recommendation for Cash Flow, Treasury investments, Liquidity, financial growth strategies, and Cash Reserve Policy
    4. Supervise and maintain a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of the organization’s reported financials
    5. Oversee Risk Management policies and controls for the organization
    6. Review all legal contracts prior to authorization
    7. Serves on the JAFF, Investment committee and ensure proper compliance of investments per the Investment Policy Statement
    8. Implement and manage processes and procedures for international transactions in compliance with Federal and OFAC guidelines
    9. Ensure the organization and its Foundation are in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and international financial reporting standards
  2. Transactions
    1. Ensure the reconciliation process is complete and signed off by Development, Accounting, and CFO
    2. Support month-end, quarterly, and year-end close process
    3. Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
  3. Reporting
    1. Prepares and presents monthly and quarterly financial reports and analysis for the International Board of Directors, including a summary of results and next quarter projections
    2. Issue timely and accurate financial statements
    3. Manages and works closely with Capin Crouse regarding accounting and tax items
    4. Coordinate the preparation of the organizational audited financials and Form 990
    5. Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of the organization’s operations 
    6. Monitor key financial and operating metrics
    7. Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts
    8. Works closely with JAFF investment committee and investment advisor regarding JAFF investments and endowment.
    9. Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
    10. Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
  4. Compliance
    1. Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
    2. Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
    3. Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting and tax filings
  5. Serve as a board member on the JAFF and investment committee
  6. Other duties and projects as assigned by the Supervisor to support department and organizational needs
Qualifications
  • Must possess a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ and agree with the Joni and Friends statement of faith
  • Desire to serve in a growing and dynamic Christian service ministry
  • Preferred 10+ years of accounting experience with progressive responsibility,  Nonprofit accounting experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred in Accounting or Finance
  • Required Certified Public Accountant designation
  • Good interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to effectively organize and prioritize a wide range of daily tasks with varied deadlines are necessary
  • Must be detail oriented, committed to accuracy, a team player and self-starter who is flexible and able to work independently
  • Must have a strong sense of confidentiality
  • Strong general computer skills are necessary along with a competent, working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Sage Intaact
  • Understanding of Christian ministry and specifically Joni and Friends is desirable
Compensation for the exempt position is $215,000 - $225,000. This is a hybrid position, working Mon/Tue/Thu in the Agoura Hills office and Wed/Fri remote.
