Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will cultivate a strong understanding of the business and work closely with JumpStart's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to drive financial discipline and fiscal accountability across all lines of business (LOB) and programmatic areas of the organization to help accomplish the organization's mission. In this role, the CFO serves as a strategic and operational advisor to all leaders in direct partnership with the CEO to assist them with strategic decisions and tactical operations to ensure the fiscal health of the organization and long-term impact.
A critical leader in the organization, this visionary strategically positions the organization for sustainability and impact today with an eye toward the future through sound fiscal planning and management practices. The CFO will lead a high-performing finance and accounting team, ensuring revenues and expenses stay in balance, overseeing FP&A (financial planning & analysis) functions, making recommendations on mergers and acquisitions, obtaining funding, working with department heads to analyze financial data and craft budgets, attesting to the accuracy of reports and consulting with boards of directors and the CEO on strategy reflects how this position impacts the organization and our mission.
Essential Job Functions
40% - Strategic and Operational Leadership
  • Develop and implement the financial strategy of the company. This includes long-term financial planning and forecasting, risk management, and investment strategies.
  • Work with the CEO and all senior leaders across the organization on aligning and executing strategies and initiatives critical to the success of JumpStart on a short-term and long-term basis and provide ongoing support and problem-solving across all areas of JumpStart's work.
  • Oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements. Ensure the timely reporting of key financial data and updates to the CEO, Board of Directors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Lead financial discussions on all new initiatives to determine economic feasibility and impact of decisions.
  • Direct the Finance and Accounting team and ensure their ongoing professional development and training. Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team.
25% - Finance
  • Create strategic budgets for the organization carried out multiple years into the future, consistent with the strategic plan, and translate annual tactical budgets from these long-term projections.
  • Communicate financial implications of long-term and tactical financial planning to senior leadership to ensure each understands how their LOB contributes to JumpStart’s financial success.
  • Partner with the Executive Leadership in support of the organizational budget and forecast.
  • Provide leadership and management to the finance team to deliver accurate and timely financial information while complying with all applicable regulations.
  • Define and implement analysis and reporting to provide visibility and transparency to all business line leaders to support decision-making and execution of existing and new business programs.
  • Manage cash flow and investment activities to ensure maximum returns while meeting financial commitments.[KA1]
  • Ability to be involved and serve on the internal investment panel.
  • Serve as primary point of contact with the JumpStart Finance and Audit Committee, leading all meetings in collaboration with the Chair of the Committee.
  • Identify and address risks and opportunities for the organization.
15% - Operational Oversight of LOB Financial Activities
  • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team
  • Identify financial driven Key Performance Indicators for the organization and socialize these to LOB leaders, measuring periodic performance and engaging with leaders to ensure accomplishment of targeted performance
  • Develop Business Performance Scoreboards and train LOB leaders to harness it to catalyze action-based decision-making to accomplish positive financial and operational results
  • Establish regular monthly regimen with LOB leaders to analyze periodic results to ensure each line is on track to achieve or exceed actual results versus the annual budget
  • Partner with LOB leaders to anticipate obstacles and act quickly to counteract negative outcomes in support of fiscal accountability for their LOB results
  • Organize working groups among LOB leaders to respond to budgetary challenges as they arise to stem deviations from the budget
  • Identify technology, including AI, and outsourcing to enable the organization to increase productivity and efficiency, ultimately working cost out of its financial processes
15% - IT and Data
  • Manage the Data/IT team in technology selection, implementation, customization, data analysis, and management to support the day-to-day productivity of JumpStart.
  • Support IT to provide coordinated management of facilities and oversee the development and pricing for contracted IT services to other nonprofits that may be collocated in the same facility.
  • Guide the administrative staff on appropriate office management topics and data stewardship.
  • Responsible for all software solutions, ensuring appropriate ones are purchased and implemented, aligned with strategic objectives. Participate in all software selection processes across the organization and provide guidance on the process and potential opportunities.
  • Oversee JumpStart’s facility operations, ensuring safety and fit for current facilities and leading all changes in office environments and/or locations.
5% - Support for Human Resources
  • Support Chief People Officer on all compensation and benefits topics to ensure equitable treatment of team members within the available budget and in alignment with the strategic plan.
  • Support and monitor timely and accurate completion of payroll with employee payroll processing and reporting, fringe benefit plans.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as a senior management team member and provide insight and counsel on all essential matters to JumpStart's board, the communities we serve, and our team.

Decision-Making Responsibilities
Wide decision-making responsibility. Is responsible for significant decisions within the area of direct responsibility and serves as a leader to other senior managers in making short and long-term decisions that impact all areas of JumpStart's strategic and operating plans.

Required Qualifications
Education, Training, and Experience
  • Multi-faceted business and/or non-profit leader with 15+ years of management experience in multiple areas of operations and 10+ years of professional experience in Strategy, HR, Diversity, Finance/Accounting, and IT.
  • A mix of solid business backgrounds, including General Management, Chief Operating Officer, and CEO for a smaller organization or specialization in Finance, IT, HR, or Legal balanced with broader business experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete projects and generate results/outcomes.
  • Ideally, experience managing multiple departments with at least 1-2 levels of direct reports focused on generating effective business results/outcomes.
  • Proven strategic and day-to-day influence skills across a complex matrix of stakeholders.
  • Advanced degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to lead/support change transformation across teams
