Cheney Federal Credit Union is looking for a CEO. The position is responsible for all facets of the credit union operations, strategy, financial success, and overall management. This position reports to the Board of Directors. We are seeking an individual who has a proven record of successful experience working at senior levels in small, local, community-based credit unions and demonstrated experience with progressive career development in management positions.
Summary
The CEO provides strategic direction, vision, leadership, and management in all functional areas in accordance with credit union regulations and polices established by the Board of Directors. They ensure financial stability and member satisfaction commensurate with the best interest of the members, the employees, and the Credit Union. They develop and maintain organizational structure and effective personnel. They represent the Credit Union to regulatory agencies, trade associations, community and civic organizations, members, and other financial institutions.
The CEO plays a significant and deeply engaged role in performing work needed to support day-to-day operations. An average day may include meeting with members, attending a community event for member development, reviewing financials and risk management reports, working with technology vendors to resolve systems issues, developing marketing materials, and other activity that might otherwise be delegated to other resources in a larger organization. This is a full-time, working-manager position.

Essential Job Responsibilities and Evaluation Criteria
Strategic and Business Planning – Ensure the Credit Union establishes and follows prudent financial practices that reach Strategic Plan goals while maintaining the soundness of the Credit Union
- Partnership with the Board of Directors – Maintain a partnership with the Board of Directors through which information affecting the performance of the Credit Union is shared openly and accurately
- Compliance – Ensure the Credit Union is compliant with federal, state and other regulatory agencies
- Financial performance – Chair the ALM / Risk Management Committee. Develop and supervise the implementation of a Business Plan and budget that are consistent with the Strategic Plan
- Staff Management – Ensure the Credit Union recruits, develops, and retains outstanding staff members who provide professional, caring service to the members
- Risk Management – Establish, maintain, and enforce a strong system of internal controls and ensure that the Credit Union regularly reviews areas of risk and develops policies and practices to mitigate exposure
- Member Relations – Ensure member input is solicited and used in evaluating service quality and product enhancements
- Community Relations – Enhance the Credit Union’s relations with the community, business groups, government agencies and trade organizations
Delegated Authorities and Responsibilities
Reports to the Board’s Executive Committee regarding duties and authorities, with additional reporting to the Supervisory / Audit committee.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor-level education is preferred but related experience, year-for-year, will be considered in lieu of academic achievement
- Experience: Candidates must have at least 10+ years progressive experience in banking and a minimum five years of senior management level experience preferably with small (under $250 million) community-based credit unions and/or banks. They should have experience in key management positions within financial services with progressively greater responsibility.

- Represent the Credit Union and develop relationships within the industry, community, and governmental entities
