Job Summary
Responsible for performing technical and specialized work in conjunction with chemical analyses.
Job Description
  • Perform technical and specialized work activities, including analysis, instrument calibration, instrument maintenance, instrument troubleshooting, documentation and implementing corrective action for out of limits, and adversely trending data.
  • Conduct special tests, sampling operations, and analyses in accordance with standardized chemical and radiochemical analyses, temperatures, pressures and flows to the required accuracy.
  • Analyze data and calculate test results for reports and system chemistry, as needed based on analysis results, to maintain system chemistry in optimal conditions.
  • Perform calibration checks and calibration procedures for laboratory instruments, radiochemical instruments, and in-line process analyzers and document all checks and procedures as required.
  • Perform, or request (via plant work order process) preventive and corrective maintenance as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education requirements:
  • Associate degree in Chemistry or a related field, or equivalent education or experience.
Work Experience:
  • Two (2) years' experience, with a minimum of two (2) years in the respective specialty, and one (1) year of related technical training.
  • Experience is generally gained through a progression that includes two years as Junior Chemical Technician.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Successful completion of the Plant Technician Selection System (TECH) test is required for this position. A review of Employment Testing Information, Test-Taking tips, and the TECH Practice Test may be helpful. A link to these materials may be found at AEP.com/Careers by selecting Employment testing. A physical abilities assessment is also required for this position.
  • Plan and complete scheduled activities on time and support other personnel in group to complete their activities.
  • Lead and direct other technicians, when required, to obtain satisfactory work results.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition and clean equipment, tools and work areas after job completion.
  • Assist in the proper training of other employees in the thorough, safe and timely completion of assigned tasks, as required.
  • Support and participate in the Emergency Plan Organization, HAZMAT response organization, and Corrective Action Program activities as assigned, and in accordance with procedures and policies applicable for the assigned role.
  • Perform all duties, and work with other employees in a safe manner, in compliance with appropriate company safety policies and rules.
  • Assume responsibility for continuously upgrading knowledge and skill.
Physical Demands:
  • It is understood that in the performance of most nuclear generating plant duties there will be associated radiation exposure within the limits prescribed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
  • Work location will include a plant environment which may include exposure to: heat, cold, and noise.
  • Work location will include outdoors, and therefore subject to weather conditions. Education and experience / licensing and certification requirements of this position conform to ANSI N18.1 – 1971 and ANSI/ANS-3.1-1993.
Must establish & maintain a permanent residence within a 45-minute safe drive to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant.
