The Peer Supporter - Mobile Advocate plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive support to survivors of domestic violence. This role would primarily work with survivors housed in Athens County and would collaborate with surrounding county programs virtually and/or in-person to build a referral base to community PEER SUPPORTERs as indicated. This individual will focus on building strong, supportive relationships with survivors, offering a combination of emotional, informational, and practical assistance. The goal of the Peer Supporter is to promote the well-being and autonomy of survivors, helping them navigate their recovery journey with empathy, respect, and empowerment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide peer support, CPST, and/or other services to clients who are survivors of domestic violence
- Collaborate with business development in developing partnerships with agencies interested in Thrive’s services, specifically around domestic violence-focused initiatives
- Support development of domestic violence program, in conjunction with other internal departments including Project Management, Marketing, Business Development, Clinical and Community, among others
- Create program awareness, both to community partners and clients
- Through identifying as a person in recovery and intentionally sharing their recovery story; use this as appropriate means to assist clients, provide hope, and help in changing patterns and behaviors
- Help clients understand recovery, as well as identify and achieve their own recovery needs, wants and goals
- Conduct outreach to clients to engage them in services
- Provide information and opportunities for individuals to direct their own recovery and advocacy processes - individualized recovery action plans will be utilized to assist and guide individuals toward their own personal goals
- Assist clients in finding resources for harm reduction, detoxification treatment, family support, and support groups
- Teach and support acquisition and utilization of skills needed to sustain recovery from substance use and/or mental health diagnoses
- Responsible for maintaining accurate records and notes, confidentiality, and compiling timely reports
- Maintain records and provide assistance with appropriate documentation in files and computer database
- Achieve all performance goals in regards to client outreach, engagement and services provided
- Enter all EHR notes in an accurate and timely manner including phone notes
- Advocate for the needs of each individual
- Complete caseload management including all necessary documentation
- Communicate with community partners and/or healthcare staff to build rapport and coordinate care
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Identify as a person in recovery with at least one year of successful recovery, specializing in domestic violence
- Certified Peer Supporter in the state of Ohio
- Ability to be credentialed as a Qualified Behavioral Health Specialist in the state of Ohio
- Able to receive Ohio Medicaid number for billing purposes
- Knowledge of area resources that may aid client in ongoing recovery (i.e. transportation, treatment providers, sober support systems)
- Working knowledge of different pathways to recovery and social systems including evidence-based practices
- Understands problems analysis, decision analysis, evaluate interventions, and contingency plans
- Ability to be an active listener by asking questions and reflecting on what is being said
- Proficient level of ability with computers; Microsoft Office Products
- Effective written and oral communication skills; ability to articulate information clearly
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance
- Working smartphone capable of downloading applications as part of the job, maintain compliance with organizations BYOD policy (IT-003)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience providing peer support or mental health services to clients
- Prior experience with domestic violence support programs
- Prior experience with business development in the behavioral health space
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent
