Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Orthopedic Coding Specialist to join our team. As a Coding Specialist, you will be responsible for accurately assigning medical codes to patient records and ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulations. Your expertise in medical coding and knowledge of medical terminology will be essential in maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records. Nextgen Experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze patient medical records to identify relevant diagnoses, procedures, and treatments
- Assign appropriate medical codes using ICD-10, and other coding systems.
-Familiar with appropriate use of modifiers
-Familiar with appropriate bundling and unbundling
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of coded information for billing and reimbursement purposes
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies
- Stay updated on changes in coding guidelines, regulations, and industry best practices
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations
- Participate in coding audits and quality improvement initiatives
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification in medical coding preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical coding, preferably in a medical office or healthcare setting
- Proficient knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes
- Strong understanding of coding systems such as ICD-10, and DRG
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical billing software. Experience with Nextgen preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in coding assignments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
